About three months ago I moved into a new house. The house is about a year old. The person that I bought it from stated that they had never had any type of pest problem. I saw no signs of a problem through the house either (holes, droppings etc..). Well, I have seen THREE mice in the last week. My rather fat kitty has succedeed in catching and killing one, but they are still there.

I called two exterminators. One said they didn't offer a plan for mice (wtf??) the other said the first visit would be $120 and the from then on $70. They recommended at least 6 months of treatment. I asked what they would use to get rid of them and the secretary told me sticky traps. For $470 I'll do the sticky traps myself, thank you. I've never had any experience in dealing with these things. Does anyone have any tips or ideas that worked for them? I am planning on putting out about 15 of the sticky traps and using Decon under the house. What can I bait the sticky traps with? One person told me peanut butter. Does this sound like a good plan?

Sticky traps will work unless its a roof rat, them suckers are hella smart. I know of one that survived on windsheild washer fluid for an entire weekend. There was a car in the warehouse that the rat was in, my buddy tried to starve it out.

Sticky traps work well. We had some in our house a couple of years ago and sticky traps got rid of all of them.

I had a similar problem when I first bought my house. To get rid of it, I bought 3 small brown boxes of Rodent killing pellets from Target or Wal-Mart. I think the brand was D-CON or something. I set one box in the Garage, One outside under the deck, and one just outside the kitchen where the bastage had been spotted. Worked like a charm...

On a side note.. I didn't have any kids.. Not a good idea if little ones are around...

get younger cat

edit: if you have a cat that likes to chase and eat them maybe poison isn't the best idea

These are definitely "mice". They are no where near what I would calla rat.

I remember once when I was little. My step dad had a big huge farmhouse out in the country that he grew up in. No one had lived in it for about a year, so w e were going to remodel it and move in. The first day we went down to look at it and see what all had to be done we saw a rat. Not a mouse, but a RAT. This sucker was a good eight inches from nose to back feet, not counting the tail. What everyone around here calls a woods rat. My step dad screamed like a little girl :D. We always picked on him after that, because he was such a big rugged guy in everything but rats and mice. Needless to say, we sold the house and bought another. :)

save a cat from the shelter. he'll get a kick out of killing the mice too! i had a mouse in my apt... traps didn't work, but a cat sure did.
of course some might think it's more cruel than sticky traps. cats like to play with/torture their food.

She didn't eat the mouse. Apparently she just pimp slapped him. His whole neck was broke when I found him.

I don't really know of a "humane" way to get rid of them. I've seen the traps that let them come in, but they can't get out. But what are you going to do with them after they are trapped?

Mousetraps or sticky traps inside the house, poison pellets for garage, crawlspace, attic etc. It'll take a bit to kill them, but kill them it will.
