wow, blazing fast. thought this deal would take days/weeks.

Yeah, right. The owners of YouTube knew the long-term (and even medium term) survival of the site was in Jepordy. Along comes google offering 1.65b. Hard decision there.

1.65 BILLION!? WTF?! You have got to be kidding me. YouTube is complete and utter sh!t. This will go down in history as the biggest mistake Google ever made. Well, that and relying upon flash to embed videos. Did dumb and dumber take over at google or something?

Lmao. This thing is hilarious. YouTube -might- make money, but I feel that Google is trying to reach the tween-teen market.

It's an all stock deal, youtube is still worth nothing. The youtube employees who actually acquire stocks should sell them as quickly as possible.
The owners of youtube have to be relieved now. Instead of spending all their VC money, facing hundreds of lawsuits in court and squandering the chance of success because of ineptitude, they can now walk away with something to show.

Now with an organization (google) that can actually handle the volume that youtube was receiving, they might be ablw to do something with youtube. That something is going to come in the form of heavy advertising, stricter content control, user fees, and a few other fun things that always manage to kill the core of a "sub-culture".

I believe google has some deals with record companies

nice job for the youtube guys. just walked off with a huge sum of money. dump the stock on the market and retire.

But google investors should worry. Youtube has/had tons of copyright issues. they had no money and suing them would be rather a waste of time. now that Google owns them, guess what, the pockets are now full of cash and worth the time to sue.
