Yeah after you bought Keeleysam's stock 😛

BTW - Sam, you are welcome for that tip.

Aggressor, if you really want to learn to trade, as you claim "long term investing" is a bad idea.... I don't agree, but I have decided to make this account a trading account. (something in real life I think is safe to do with maybe 10% of your portfolio)

Check out my holdings... you will see what a real trader holds overnight.
One has to wonder if all these people who dumped 100-200% equities all in a particular stock do that with their real life investments as well.

I'm pretty sure anyone who invested 100% of their portfolio in PPHM last year lost their shirts.

I can understand the guy going 100% in Berkshire, but PPHM? MBIA? Ambac?
Good lord.

Yeah, but this is a game, and since we can't buy fixed income, or even get dividends you can't build a real portfolio anyway.

Bond ETF's and Indexes. TIPS and Treasury Indexes/ETF's. Probably hundreds you can pick from all in all.
What I bought can be considered fixed income

Are dividends and stock splits added to my account?

Yes. Your account is reconciled for stock splits and dividends are posted after U.S. market close.

That's what they say.

And IRL, active traders(anyone not practicing buy/hold) would be getting the short end of the stick. 😀

30-35% vs. 15% of your investment profits going to Uncle Sam?
Big difference.

There needs to be some kind of capital gains tax in this game for securities held for less than 3 months.

Edit: Did you create 2 accounts? 😕

We need a captial gain tax of 50% for holding the share less than 6months : ) and 25% if sold after 6month :!

We also need to increase broker cost to $40

We need tough hard conditions to make this game very stressful and worthwhile 😉

Also does this Virtual stock game website even support capital gain tax ?

Ok.
I automatically assumed "jakefalcons" and "jakedeez" are the same people.
Regarding dividends, I'm just reading what they said. Doesn't mean it works or not.

Why would we tax 50 points for 6 months, and 25 for more then that... if we were going to tax the gains why wouldn't we use something somewhere close to the actual code?

And why $40? I mean, if we are going to charge more commission, we should charge something closer to what a full service broker charges...which is say on 1000 shares of GE: $573. If not, lets leave it at the discount levels.

1.) No, No.

2.) No.

3.) No.

4.) AFAIK, no it doesn't support a capital gains tax system.

Australia :
less than 12 months = Capital gain tax = 48%
more than 12 months = Capital gain tax = 25%
Average online broker charges in Australia is = $20 to $40

I deleted all the people who never made any transactions in the game. Our game is back down to 67 people now!

Never invest all your money in one particular stock (Unless it's Berkshire of course). 😉

i should've put a stop in place. the morning that particular stock took a huge jump, i was in a meeting and didn't find out i was dead last until it was too late 😛
