sigh paulus and mcroberts were extremely disappointing in my opinion, we need at least two prolific scorers because coach K couldn't run an offense to save his life. I also think its kind of interesting that people hate us so much. Duke rarely talks that much sh1t about any other school except for carolina

Duke is hated for many reasons. One good example is K being in an AMEX commercial about being a "leader" right during the NCAA tournament when the most HS players are watching. That should never have been allowed. And what about Duhon's (?) mom or whatever getting that high paying job she was completely unqualified for?

There's plenty of dirty stuff that goes on at Dook that you don't hear about. Live around here and you'll start hearing things.
Boozer's mom, for instance.

Dook still hasn't been put on probation, or stripped of their wins, or anything for using an ineligible player for a whole season. (Corey Magette).
Etc, etc, etc....they are untouchable, as is UNC. UNC does tons of illegal (NCAA) stuff and nothing is said.

Yep all the top schools do stuff like that in FB and BB and never get touched, or get a slap on the wrist so the NCAA can pretend it's doing something. Makes me sick.

The old saying is, when Notre Dame breaks an NCAA rule, then Southwest Budapest State will get put on probation.
The NCAA knows who makes them a lot of money.

Southern Cal should be on probation, and should be forfeiting a bunch of wins because of Reggie Bush, but who really thinks that the NCAA will actually do anything?

Not as big as Duke vs UNC (IMHO), but it's pretty damn big.

In North Carolina, the NC State/UNC rivalry is the biggest in the state.

Duke/UNC is more of a national thing that came about in the last 10-15 years, pushed by Dook Vitale and ESPN.
Coach K getting Dook to the level of UNC and keeping them there, coupled with Jimmy V. leaving NC State and State's 10 year downfall took the Wolfpack out of the national conversation.....but UNC fans want to beat State. Sure, they want to beat Dook, too...but only in basketball.
Go to the UNC/Dook football game.....it won't be sold out. Go to the UNC/State game and you can't get a ticket.
Look at attendance for the non-revenue sports: Baseball....UNC/State is big.(relatively) Soccer...etc.
Roy Williams has said that the State game is the biggest one for UNC and their fans. So did previous coach Matt Doherty.

To understand this, you have to look at how things were before Coach K and Dook really took off in the early 90's: When Valvano left NC State, (over completely bogus charges, I might add..but that's another post) The two top teams of all time in the ACC were NC State and North Carolina.
Both had 10 ACC titles. Both had 2 NCAA titles. Dook was a distant 3rd in ACC titles, and had zero NCAA titles.
We all know what Dook did since then. A great run.
So lots of younger fans only know the Dook/UNC rivalry....but the last 15 years doesn't erase all the memories the 30+year old fans of State and UNC have. And these fans are the ones who are the paying customers for both schools these days...that's why the State/UNC game will always be bigger in the state of North Carolina than the Dook/UNC game.
There are more alumni of both those schools still living just in North Carolina than have ever graduated from Dook since the ACC started. Two biggest schools in the state.
Most of Dook's students are from up north....or at least they have a much bigger percentage of out-of-state students.

People like NFS4 perceive that the Dook/UNC rivalry is larger, simply because they are too young to remember otherwise.
 
My previous post notwithstanding, I'm not sure State has a chance against UNC tomorrow...that will be 4 games in 4 days, and our point guard re-injured his hamstring in the first half today and was ineffective in the 2nd half.
I don't see beating UNC without him, but the way the tourney is, I guess you never know.
