Alright.. try running memory async at 100 mhz while bus at 200 mhz and at as relxed timings as possible.

And run the cpu at 1200 mhz or something so you know it isn't at fault. What are your cpu temps?

Rev 2.0 boards do support 200 mhz bus officially. How else could they support Barton 3200+ which is 200 mhz bus at default?

I would not RMA this board if it did not support 200MHz FSB. I am not an RMA abuser. I talked to Excaliber and they are willing to refund my purchase price less their 7% credit card processing fee. That's pretty nice of them since it is not their official policy. But first I'm going to try to get this board working.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them out and report back.

NB has enough thermal paste.
Case has tons of air flow, with duct through the side panel to the cpu. MBM5 reports 36C under load at 200FSB, 2300MHz, 1.75 vcore. 3Dmark01 and NFS Hot Pursuit 2 are stable. UT2003 crashes to desktop.
I can get into windows at up to 220FSB, but of course its not 3D stable.

FSB/DRAM ratio > 1

First - I'm trying to run some tests. No replies please about I should run sync. I understand that 3/3 and 4/4 and 5/5 are are all sync. And I know they work. SORRY, I've posted on several forums and clearly many folks don't read the question.

Question -
Anyone run a FSB/DRAM ratio >1? 3/4 and 3/5 and 3/6 and 4/5 and 5/6 are all multipliers > 1 (greater than 1). Doesn't seem like any of these work. For example, results using Prime95, FreshDiag, and CacheBurst32 all suggest the board is running sync.

Let's disregard the fact that who ever wrote the bios doesn't speak basic fractions where 5/6=0.8333, not 1.2

Many Thanks!

I think your confused. Who told you that 4/5 or 5/6 is greater than 1?

Those RATIOS (not multipliers) are for forcing a higher/lower fsb thru memory.

I hope your post has errors in content, not in your math.

(6/5 or 7/6 is greater than 1 ,,, either go back to school ,,, or give me what your smoking)

If you want a DIVIDER RATIO greater than one ,,, try using 6/3 or 6/4,,, they are the ONLY ratios in BIOS greater than 1.

I run sync'd 5/5, so maybe someone else can help you with 6/3 or 6/4.

(welcome to the forum)

Now I'm leaning towards the HyperX as the cause of instability at 200FSB. Even though I have run 14 passes of memtest86 without errors, and can run Prime95 error free till the cows come home. I have been reading many accounts of inability of nforce2 rev. 2 boards to get to high FSB with the first revision of HyperX PC3500. I'm going to call Kingston on Monday and ask them about it. Other people with the same problem have called and Kingston wanted to replace their memory with some newer stuff.

Yep, most mainstream online resellers like Newegg, Mwave, etc, have all been shipping Rev2 boards for awhile. As long as you buy from a larger volume retailer, you will get a 2.0. :)

The new HyperX from Kingston has solved the problem. I'm now running prime at 215FSB. Havn't tried higher...yet.

Edit: Now I'm at 220FSB x 11 multi. UT2003 is very smooth. Priming away now...

would there be much difference in getting the regular nf7 since i don't need serial ata or does the board not perform as well? and does anyone know of compatibility issues with geil RAM, i bought some and it didn't work well with my epox board (which I am now returning) and anyone have problems ordering from googlegear prices are a lot cheaper then newegg right now?

The nf7 will perform the same as the nf7-s.
If the geil didn't work in another nforce2 board then it won't work in this one.
Googlegear is solid.

New BIOS for all models today !

NF7 BIOS's

1 --- Fixed the exclamation point under Motherboard Resources of Device manager in Windows XP when use USB keyboard/mouse and set as"Support via BIOS".
2 --- Fixed the intermittent sirens when getting into Windows 2000 or XP with both "Shutdown when CPUFAN Fail" and "CPU Shutdown Temperature"enabled in PC Health Status.
3 --- Calibrated the readings of "CPU Over Temp. Protect" option in SoftMenu III.
4 --- Fixed the problem that SATA BIOS string is wrongfully connected with PCI add on card BIOS.
5 --- Fixed system freeze problem in S-ATA BIOS initial while using display card on PCI slot.
6 --- Fixed the problem if FAN speeded too slow, system would hang at BIOS screen or at watching the status in PC health Status screen.

BIOS Compile Date: 7/2/2003.

------ ver 2.0 has this also ....

Calibrated the CPU temperature again.
Revised DDR400 DRAM timing according to NVidia's recommendation.
Updated BPL to v3.02 according to NVidia's recommendation.

I suppose I could read this entire thread to find this out, but I'm lazy. ;) Here's the deal. My old Asus A&M266 died last night so I replaced it today with an NF7-S Rev 2.0 Right now I'm still going to be running my old 1800+ in it, but after the first of the month I'm going Barton. What I want to know is what is the preferred dual channel RAM for this board? From what I've read elsewhere Corsair and Samsung seem to be good choices. That still the case?

Thanks!

Crucial has some good ram for this board if you buy it from their site. I'm using the new revision of Kingston HyperX PC3500. My 2 x 256MB sticks are running at 220MHz FSB dual channel at Cas 2-3-3-7.

I'm running two 256MB sticks of Crucial 3200. My results have not been at all like the review referenced above. A single stick ran great at 400Mhz and higher but when I put the second stick in :disgust: 333Mhz in dual channel mode was about the best I could do. Of course my NFS-7 is a ver 1.0 and that may be my problem.

I do have one problem that I'd like some HELP with,
I replaced my 300w PSU with a 450w PSU. Now when I cold boot and start Windows 2000 Pro an audible alarm goes off about 3 seconds into the OS load. Quite annoying. If I run Windbond Hardware Doctor the alarm shuts off. Any ideals? I checked the event logs and nothing. Thanks for your help

Edit: Hey ! that new BIOS sounds like it might fix my problem ! where is it ??

They also have BIOS v2.0 for revision 1.0~1.2 motherboards. Looks like it fixes pretty much the same issues.

Just wanted to add something that are really off topic. But since ppl are discussign ram and ram timings... I confirmed that running 2-2-2-11 beats 2-2-2-5. So there is no need to try to get to 2-2-2-5. Try it out for yourselves folks.

I posted the new BIOS's on the 11th ... Is the re-posting from a lack of reading the posts or keeping in touch with the thread ???

I guess some need to re-post for re-posting sake.

(gotta get that platinum status)
