hey does anyone know about the new revision of the nforce2 chipset?
the one that's supposed to support fsb400 natively?

and does the nf7-s have this new revision of the chipset?
is that what v2.0 is?

cause I just ordered the nf7-s and barton 2500+

If you ordered from newegg.com then you are good to go. I got my NF7-S board from them about a month ago and it was a 2.0

I'm not getting from newegg, I'm not worried that's it's gonna be v2.0, it will be 2.0... but does 2.0 mean that it's the new revision of nforce2 from nvidia is what I'm wondering about..?

I was thinking a Zalman NBJ32.. Anyone tried?

My nb fan is giving up on me already and it's only been a month.. gah.

I used AS thermal adheasive and a cyrstal orb ...

It handles my 220.5 fsb with my additional voltage I added with the pencil trick. (1.93v)

I dont think you can do it without a fan.

BDSM, let us know how that turns out. I'm considering getting a different cooler for my NB (and ti4200, but that's another thread.) :) You might be able to pull it off if you had a case fan on the side.

Anybody with the NF7-S have their system come to a complete stop and make a siren type sound, kinda like whet the cops use in europe.

I just put in a new CPU, actually a old one, and it styarted doing it. I had to let it run at 100Mhz FSB just to boot up. I checked the temps and they are fine, so are the volts???

This also happened on my last CPU when I was playing a fast moving game???

I was running my NF-7 ver 1.0 just fine at 200Mhz FSB / 400Mhz DDR with a single stick of Crucial 256MB PC3200. I ordered a second stick of the Crucial PC3200 memory so I could try the Dual DDR mode. After installing the second memory stick, my PC became totally unstable. The Sisoft memory benchmarks ran fine but the PC would immediate lockup upon entering a BF1942 online game. I set the board back to 166Mhz FSB / 333Mhz DDR in order to regain stability. Any ideals? My memory timings are set to "SPD" or 8/3/3/3 with a 6/6 ratio. I had already backed the CPU off my original 11x200 (2.2Ghz) stable setting to 10x200 (2Ghz) in order to lower my vcore (1.7v) and reduce my temps (mid 40's). Thanks for the replys...

you need more voltage to your vdd... up it to 1.7 or else you may need to do a physical mod to your board to get more juice out of it

Hey there Mr Beatle!

I did get two of them Zalman heatsinks.. One for the SB and one for the NB.
This setup works great now but I did "cheat" a little. I got an enermax 120mm fan and slapped it on my AX7!

This way the processor gets good cooling and the nb and my ram as well!!

I didn't realize at first how god an idea this was!

I am now at about 37 C Idle and 41,5 C MAX under load! That is several degrees lower than before and my system is quieter today than with the papst fan I used before on the Ax7.. Dunno how since the papst was rated at 12 db.. but it is quieter now!

It should be noted that I used AS3 now and 2 be4.

I unfortunately couldn't bother to try if the zalman would have been enough to cool the NB without a fan.
So someone else will have to do that.

Btw.. I almost wet my pants at one point when I accidentally scratched the pcb of the mobo. Pretty severly.. It seems to run fine.. hopefully I din't too any serious damage.

I think more ppl should try this with the 120mm fan.. it works great!!.. I'll try to post a pic. It looks kinda macho :)

Hey guys, I just came across a nifty little digital audio mod for the NF7-S. I posted a thread for it, but I figured it would be relevant here. :)

From the thread...

Just saw this over @ the AMDMB forums. This is an extremely simple mod that only costs $8 and adds a second optical port and a coax port. Either of the ports can be used for input, output, or both. When I get my NF7-S this week, I plan on doing this in addition to a NB cooling mod. I'm planning on setting up the optical port to be a input, and the coax as an output. This will expand nicely on the one digital output on the board already.

The full instructions with illustrations can be found here. You will need the $8 header here.

Also, this mod should work with the 8RDA+ as well as long as you use the correct pins...

Enjoy! :D

BDSM, thanks for the update. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see that 120mm on your AX7. Do you just have one screw holding it on? I have an 8045 on my tbred and I don't see how you could get more than one screw through the fan if you use something other than an 80mm.

Hey there MR Beatle.

Here are two pics of the 120 mm fan on the Ax7

Enermax 120 mm on Ax7

Same again.

Yes, there is only one screw holding it. So I put some glue on as well : ) Not the superstrong kind.. but it's enough to keep it in place without vibration.. and still easy to take off when time comes.

I couldn't resist it any longer so I ordered some Shin Etsu X-23-7762 (the latest kind) and an slk900u. So I will be back with 120 mm pics of that too sometime next week hopefully and also some results on the new Shin Etsu vs. AS3.

Hey there again mr beatle. I know this is off topic.. BUT.. I changed the ax-7 for an slk900u today.. and I'm using the same 120mm fan. (yes it was not easy to et it there.. had to glue again).. anyway.. I'm VERY impresed with this cooler!

I am now at 43,5 C after about 45 mins of priming!! And the room is a bit hotter than usual today so. the 900u is about 5 C better than the ax7!!

The old rumbers in the last messages were 2 ghz.. these are 2.2 ghz.

Wow, now you're really pushing me to ordering a 120mm. Got any pics of the 900u w/120? I can't see how you'd get it on there at all unless it's all glue. :)
