Thanks Mega. I'll check out the specs on the new board and see if it looks like its worth waiting for or for the price premium.

Do you know a safe place to buy the over-clockable 2500+'s? I'm not really into overclocking and especially with this PC for home theater use, I want it to be as quiet as possible, so that means less fans, but if I could get a few extra cycles out of it, I'd rather try and buy a non-locked CPU.

If you are going for a moderate overclock and plan on using pc3200 memory then you don't need an unlocked chip. 200 x 11 is pretty good.:)

True enough. I still recommend buying the chip from a reputable trader in the FS/FT forum. I save tons of money buying my gear there.

New rev2.0 - 2.0 BIOS

(a week old)


1. Fixed the issue that Duron 1.2G and 1.3G will not boot using BIOS version 19.
2. Add nVidia System Utility support. Please download the nvsuoem.ini file and install nVidia System Utility with this ini file (put the ini file in the directory where the setup up file for nVidia System Utility is located). http://fae.abit.com.tw/download/bios/nf7-s_2.0/nvsuoem.ini
3. Enhanced compatibility with certain WD hard disk.
BIOS compile date: 11/21/2003.


More stuff in the utility works I guess.

I like the fixed WD support item. I plan on getting a new Raptor 37GB drive soon. Thanks for the heads up.

Just looking at the BIOS updates... I have the V1.4 BIOS for my NF7-S Rev 2.0.... worth flashing to V2.0?

Well, if you want to use the NV System Utility it is. Or if you are running a 1.2 or 1.3GHz Duron... Other than that, nothing. I tried it tonight, it's stable but it did nothing to improve my already good performance.

NF7Vcore. If you don't want to update your BIOS, try that. Works great on my d1.9 machine.

I went ahead and flashed to the new BIOS version. I was itching to try out the FlashMenu program, it worked very well. No SNAFUs.

That is only for the Rev 2.0 boards ...

(same stuff the v2.0 got a month ago .... weird ? )

Please use AWDFLASH 8.23D or later to update NF7 series BIOS. With incorrect AWDFLASH version, the GUID will be erased, and leads to IEEE1394 peer to peer function failed. AWDFLASH 8.23K is included in this BIOS package.
1. Add fan speed monitor support in the nVidia System Utility.
2. Update SATA BIOS to version 4.2.43.
BIOS compile date: 12/01/2003.

Anybody tried this bios yet? I've read mixed reports. Everyone with SATA raid can't boot into windows after flashing. But some other people like it. I'm waiting until the dust settles.

I'm using it but as I said at nForcersHQ I'm not using SATA so I didn't have to worry about SATA problems. :) This BIOS is no different in performance than BIOS 20 was.

I'm using the new bios now. It works fine and I am booting off a SATA drive, but no raid.
I put bios 20 on a floppy first just in case.

What I want to know is this: does the new SATA BIOS make SATA RAID impossible or does it just not see the old array? If one were destroy the old array and create a new array, would they have trouble with the new one as well?

Awesome! I wanted fan speed controls in the NVSU. Now how about that advanced tab... ;)
EDIT: For anyone that uses it, the new version of FlashMenu is here. If you want to use FlashMenu, you need this version, as the others are blocked from downloading the new BIOS file.

Just flashed and no fan speed control :(.
EDIT: I am using SATA but only on a single Raptor. There is a new option to disable\enable the SATA boot ROM, this is what may be causing the SATA boot issues.

I have just built a new machine with an NF7S rev2. running XP Pro. When I put the machine in sleep mode via the keyboard, the computer goes to sleep and also wakes up when I press any key. If I try to put it to sleep a second time, the video display turns off, but the hard drive and fans keep going. When I try to wake it from this state, the video display will not come on. I have the BIOS set to suspend to ram (S3) when the machine is sleeping. Any ideas as to how to fix this would be appreciated.

I can't find any mention of the NF7-V on Abit's website. I'm waiting for ABIT Marketing to reply to a post I made about this at the Abit forums.

This is pure speculation, but could it be a board with the MCP-S southbridge?
