Will this set work good with the IS7 ?

2x256mb Dual Pack Kingston HyperX PC3500 2.6V rated 7-3-3-2 and can do 7-3-2-2 with default voltage upto 220mhz

I also plain to use it with a P4 2.4c or 2.8c but wont do any ocing.

It should work fine for not OC'ing but heck you have an IS7 and a 2.4 or 2.8 that either one should hit 3.2-3.5 on default voltage.

Hi Everyone!

Just ordered an Abit IS7-E from Newegg. I have a question about setting it up. I am going to use a 2.5A GHz P4 (at 100 MHz FSB) and 2 sticks of Corsair ValueSelect PC 3200 DDR RAM. I will eventually upgrade my CPU when the prices fall.

I plan on overclocking and my question is this -

1. Will the MB detect and run the RAM at 200 MHz automatically? I need to know this because I plan on overclocking the CPU for all it is worth. If this is the case then I will need to play with the CPU:RAM ratio setting.

2. If the board does not automatically detect and set the RAM speed, should I set it at 166 MHz and then overclock the CPU (leaving the ratio at 1:1) and rely on the headroom available on the memory?

3. Is it possible to set the RAM speed manually or does it automatically default to the processor speed. In this case, would I set the CPU:RAM ratio to 1:1 and overclock the CPU without worrying about the RAM?

I guess I am a little confused after reading the IS7 thread. Most people have a B or C processor and are having to slow down the FSB of their RAM (or they are using high end performance RAM). I am new at the overclocking game. I would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

Quick question about GAT. When I enable GAT I get about 300 more mb/sec in memory benchmark tests than I do normally, cpuz says that my ram is only running at something like 166mhz. Should I leave GAT enabled or switch it off and allow my memory to be at 200mhz?

Are you sure that when you enable GAT that you are not using the 5:4 divider? What memory?

I've got some 3200, and I change the CPU strap to 166? I think and that's the only way cpu-z will say that PAT is enabled. If I try to use GAT in modes other than auto, such as f1 or speedracer, I can't even boot.

My advice is do not worry about the PAT. When you set the strap to 166 it defaults the memory to 166 as well. Change the strap back to By CPU (or whatever it is normally) be sure and disable the last two settings under GAT and go from there.

Need some help. Thinking about getting the IS7-E, anything I should know before hand? (Bios issues?,memory compatibility?Misc...?)

One quick question - does the IS7-E support the original Serillel rather than the Serillel2? Also, are there any problems if I decide to move a HDD from the onboard IDE connectors to the SATA connectors using the Serillel/Serillel2 adaptors at a later date? Would I need to reinstall the OS?

What's the difference between Serillel 1 and 2?

FWIW, on my P4C800-E Deluxe I was able to move the Raptor boot drive from the ICH5 controller to the Promise controller (back and forth) and it still worked.

Thanks computer
The Serillel1 used the Marvel bridge while the Serillel2 uses the SilImage one. v2 supports hot swapping as well as ATAPI optical drives as compared to v1 which doesn't. I've read that the IS7-E only supports v2 but I just wanna be sure.

Might have known they'd come out with a better SATA before I even get mine set up! :disgust:

Can someone tell me what the BIOS settings are to setup a a system with the following drives?
PATA HDD(boot drive)->Serillel2->SATA1 connector
PATA HDD(secondary drive)->Serillel2->SATA2 connector
ATAPI DVD-ROM->IDE1
ATAPI CD-RW->IDE2

I tried connecting my boot drive but couldn't get it to be recognized even in BIOS. Thanks!

I've been trying to O/C and I've hit a snag. I've got a 2.8C @ 245 fsb with a mem ratio of 5:4 and a Vcore of 1.65v volts. It goes through burn in fine and the temps are acceptable. The issue I've hit so far is that when I'm playing UT2k4 after a minute or two I'll get a general protection fault. Any idea on how to fix this?

Have you run memtest yet? Have you disabled the last two settings under GAT?

The BIOS will not see your drives. While booting you should see the SATA controller bootup and I believe you have to hit CNTRL F4 (I think that is what the keys are) to configure the drives. If you don't see the screen than the BIOS is not set up propery and you need to head on over the the ABIT site forums and look at their tutorial.

I have a Abit IS7-E (865PE chipset) and cannot locate in BIOS 14 an entry that allows enabling hyperthreading. My chip is a 2.66 533 c1 stepping SL6S3. Even if my chip is not HT capable, should my BIOS not show the way to enable HT on my board?
Thank you.

Guys, and anyone please tell me the best memory to use the this mobo? Even the worse/what to avoid would be helpful. I would think OCZ, Geil, Corsair, or Mushkin would work well, but wanted to check first.
Thanks.

OCZ all the way.... They have great customer support. If you are not happy shoot them an email.

Yeah I knew their support had gotten much better, and their memory was good on the P4C800 series. Ok thanks Robert. :)
