I just ordered from Newegg
Abit IC7-G
3.0c CPU
2 CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 64MX64 PC-3200C2PT With Platinum - Silver Heat Spreader OEM
WinXP Home

I will not be overclocking, so what should my memory settings be?

I will be setting this up with two 100 gig hard drives on ide0 and ide1.

In what order should i do everything? I was going to download the lastest bios and load it by floppy before i loaded the OS.

Also what is IAA driver? and do i need to be concerned

thx

Ken

IAA = Intel Application Accelerator. You don't need it unless you're running RAID (so I've heard and read). Set your memory timings to SPD in BIOS and you shuold be set.

ACK!!

As of this morning I have been getting random restarts on my system after running just great for 2+ weeks.

My P4 2.4C was OC'ed to 2.8, but it went all unstable today (the reboot) so I dropped it to 2.4...
that didn't help since it just did it again. It was restarting when I launch Photoshop and now while I was running Prime (to see it it was messed up, lasted a couple hours).
I was here when it happened just a minute ago...
OK and it just did it again while sitting in the BIOS...none of the temps are unusually high either...

So what does anyone think? I've never had a box do this.
CPU (2.4C)?
PSU (Antec True480)?
MB (IC7-G)?

I have a spare PSU so I'm going to try that out first chance I get.

ih ad the same problem with my 2.4c at anything above 230 fsb. I dumped it for a 2.6c, it stopeed the reboots but I still had issues with prime over 230 fsb. I also have the true 480...what ram are you running?

One of our IC7G's got stuck at 243MHz FSB, and the other at 235MHz FSB, both on XMS4000. Our IS7 went up to 255 with it. I guess it's pretty much the luck of the draw, in terms of what FSB ceiling your IS7/IC7 allows.

what happened at the higher fsbs on the IC7's you had? were there prime errors or ramdon reboots??

For what its worth:

At the end of next week, ABIT will officially release th IC7 1.7 BIOS. Major fixes are the FSB 255Mhz barrier and Maxtor Hard drive bug. Got this from a ABIT Marketing Dept official. You can read the post here from the website. It's towards the bottom of the page.

So after I apply this BIOS update it will be a few hours/days of testing out a new stable overclock attempt from where I'm stuck at now with 255Mhz. BTW, I still don't trust the Windows update utility.

Just a question:

Will the Leadtek WinFast A350 TDH MyVIVO Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 fit the IC7 motherboard? I have one of those Antec SX1040 cases, but it still seems that the video card is way too long for the case/motherboard. Also, another thing that bothers me is how close the DIMM slots are to the video card. Will this card fit?

Another question:

How do you find out the revision of the motherboard? I have a sticker near the DIMM slots that says v1.0. Does this mean revision 1?

well received my IC7-G from newegg on wednesday an i got it installed and running saturday. It says version 1.0 on the motherboard, i turned the volume up to 11(cause its 1 more than 10) and used the mic and tried moving the mouse..............i can not hear any static or popping, although the pickup on the mic is very low. Played cd's and they sound fine. Haven't played any games yet or tried using teamspeak.....i'll keep you informed.

yeah it should say ddr400. Double check your Dividers and make sure everything is set to 1:1

I'm using GEIL GD3500 (2x512MB)... I have done some testing and it looks like one of them is bad. I also think there is a problem with the MB.
While operating by itself, my 'first' memory chip is fine in slots 1 or 2 (at 466MHz for >9 hr in prime), but fails in 3 or 4 in <2hr at more conservative settings. My 'second' chip fails in slot 2, 3 and 4 very quickly, but seems to work properly in slot 1.

It could be the CPU too I suppose, but I'm going to RMA the memory and I think the MB too.

::BANG::

I didn't even flinch - an interesting byproduct of daily matches of Urban Terror I suppose.
The familiar scent of ozone already filled the air - I looked around at the power backup units first - but no... the computer.

That sound I know from an electronics class long ago - a capacitor - or what used to be one.
So, I swapped in a new PSU and everything seems to be stable now. I'm running loops to confirm this, but I guess I still have an RMA to do...

Packin: i imagine that you have relaxed the ram to the max so as to
determine your cpu limit? Ie up Vdimm to 2.8V, set ratio at 3:2,
set manual timings to 3-4-4-8 ?

For those thinking of buying the Zalman NB-32J Passive Heatskink

If you get the Zalman, just

MAKE SURE FOR THE- LOVE OF GOD - that you sand down all for sides of the Zalman for the retention clip/ring. When you try to mount all four clips into the hooks, if there is too much pressure, then you need to file down the sides on the Zalman a bit more. I didn't do this and have only myself to blame for half-assing it with a broken retention clip flying off as my prize. I only did this good enough for about 3 sides, and the 4th not enough. So imagine my puzzlement at why all of my temps went up by about 5c across the board after installing the Zalman. I just thought it was poor case airflow? So I buy the new ABIT NB Heatsink/fan and then when I go to install it, I find out that the Zalman had to much pressure on one of the retention clips and had BROKEN COMPLETELY OFF on one of the sides. So it was just hanging on there. Thank god for Super-Glue, and thats what I used to glue the clip back into it's socket.

Yeah, so thats why the temps where up. If you do get a Zalman, make sure you sand the stubs down, but don't over do it or else the ring wont work at all. Also with the newer ABIT NB Heatsink/fan, my temps have come down by about 4-5C, compared to the original ABIT craptastic NB Heatsink/fan. It's a tough decision deciding on which to go with. If your not Overclocking, then go with the Zalman, but if you are then I think you need the extra cooling from the active fan.

BTW, anyone want to buy an already modified Zalman NB-32J ;)

i was looking at the difference between the ic7 and the ic7-g and noticed that the ic7 does not have dual ddr module support. does anybody know what this is?

I'm pretty new to building my own rig, so plz excuse the newbie questions.

I have the IC7-G, so at least i'm under the right forum. I have 2 sticks of Corsair Memory XMS PC3200C2(2 3 3 6 T1) for a total of 1 gig.

When my system boots up to the POST SCREEN it shows:

(Dual Channel Mode enabled)
Memory Frequency For DDR333 Spec
Host/DRAM Frequency is 200/160 MHz
AGP/PCI Frequency is 66/33 MHz

Its showing DDR333, obviously that is incorrect. What do i need to set to enable or show DDR400? Alittle hand holding here would be appreciated.

Well for $220 or so, you do get a lot, but I don't believe it's Prescott compatible, so that takes away a big reason right there. And with 4 SATA devices possible on the PCI bus, that seems like it would really slow things down, for anything else you may have. I have a IC7 now, and am pleased (not so much that the the price has dropped $26 or so since I got it, or that it didn't have a NIC, but hey those are the breaks). If I were to buy a board right now, I'm sure this board and maybe the IS7-G and P4P800D would be my choices. But I wouldn't bite on this baby until there are at LEAST 2 or 3 reviews of this board out there. And with a 1.0 Bios revision would make me nervous. Also, is the OTES on the Mofsets just marketing, or for real? I guess the reviews will tell. (BTW, are they still only giving you 1 SATA converter, or maybe two?)

And that's my $0.02

The new IC7 Bios Ver 1.7 is out. There are quite a few fixes, a lot more than the usual bios revision. I'm still not sold on the ABIT windows Flash utility, and will do it the old fashioned way. Of course I will do it after I hear how it goes for a few folks, seeing if there are any issues with this BIOS revision.

Good luck to all.
