Is there any real difference between the IC7-Max2 and Max3?? I'm really looking these boards over hard. Looking to OC a 2.4/2.6/2.8C to 3.2+.

Anyone with a breakdown of the differences (options and OC'ing)??

BTW- I have 2 x 256mb TwinMOS TMD-43D that ran 225 FSB in my NF7-S- will that get me to 240- 260 FSB 1:1 with one of these??

What is better with one of these boards- 250 fsb @ 1:1, or 280 fsb@ 5:4 - assuming all components will run there.

I just notice there is no serial port on the IC7-Max3. I just brought a device that needs to connect to the serial port. :(

legacy ports don't exist due to luck. they exist because some people are too stubborn to upgrade to the times. the max3 is refreshing, though i admit i do have a serial LCD... but easily converted to USB.

Guys,

Help me out here: I added another 2 sticks of Corsair XMS3500/512Mb RAM. That means I now have 4 identical sticks installed (2G). However, to even get past the boot screen, I had to set the performance setting to Auto. Hence the performance mode is now disabled in CPUz. I don't know what the effect is on performance, but seeing as I am one of those geeks that only wants the best, I need to find out why I can no longer have it set at F1?

Is it because I have 4 DIMMs installed, and GAT simply does not work then, or is it a RAM timing issue? Are there anyone else in that boat?

just send me those 2 extra sticks and turn your settings back up :)

seriously tho, i have read that the more sticks, the harder it is to hold the aggressive timings / settings.

if you dont REALLY need that ram, take it out and build another system or sell it. i doubt your using more than a gig. i run engineering programs and rarely max my gig. i have the same ram as you too.

Well I do actually use it. Right now for instance, NewsPro is takig some 1075Mb, and with a few other things running as well, it is quite noticable how big a difference the extra RAM makes. Yesterday I could not be using IE, Outlook, or Publisher alongside NewsPro, it simply was having to go to Swap file too often. Now, everything is running fine.

The irritating bit is of course the GAT settings. Does anyone know if I can enable them by changing any of the other settings? Timings, FSB, increase voltage etc.?

4 memory banks. You can run 2DS or 4SS, but if you run 4DS PAT is disabled.

Update Intel OSB logo.
Fixed the issue that system with BIOS 2.0 will hang at post code "AF" with certain memory modules is installed.

I recently purchaced 2 abit serial 2 adapters from a guy off the fs/t boards. when they arived 1 was a serial 2 and one was a serial 0 adapter. what i want to know is what is the difference. i have a ic7-g motherboard and the only thing i can see written about the serial 0 adapter online is not to use them with my motherboard. i did plug the adapter in to a single 40 gig drive and it did show up fine. Any information would be great.

silly rabbit ~ you cant run any GAT when using a mem ratio. it only works w/ 1:1.

try it at 200fsb, 1:1, cas2622, 2.8v vdimm
streetracer is the fastest GAT setting (not F1)

if it still dont work try the other 2 ram slots.

HTH :)

Anyone having problems with the Radeon 9700 and IC7 Bios 2.0 or 2.1??

I read about other users complaining of the same problem with their Radon 9700 cards and IC7's over on the ABIT forums, so I thought I'd ask here as I'm sure there is the same amount of 'viewing' traffic. The problem seems to be with owners of Radeon 9700 Family (Non-Pro, Pro, All-In-Wonder) video cards and those who have the IC7 motherboard and use BIOS 2.0 or 2.1. I have the IC7 Ver 1.0 and upgraded my IC7 to Bios 2.0 with a Power Color Radeon 9700 NON-Pro. Once I installed Bios 2.0, my Radeon would crash at least once a day, sometimes twice with the 'VPU-Error Recovery' type 2-D crash.

Basically, It would start by me not being able to move my mouse at all for like 5 seconds or so and the screen would flicker to All Black for a second or two, then I would see instant screen corruption, with a rainbow of colors on screen; making it look like the Video Card is defective or something.

Since then, I flashed back to Bios 1.9 and I have not had this problem at all. I am still using Radeon Catalyst drivers 3.10 and I have had not problems since ditching the IC7 Bios 2.0. I was going to upgrade to Bios 2.1, but FORGET it!! (And before anyone jumps on me about this, I flash my Bios with a floppy then disconnect the power cord, move the CMOS jumper, then power back on and load defaults.)

Original Bios 2.1 thread on ABIT Forums where users started mentioning the problem, and here's a thread I started for users specifically for this problem.

If anyone is having this problem, let us know!!

Wow dude, that really does blow. For anyone who bought their stuff @ NewEgg, not sure if you knew this but you can replace your board from them for up to a year.

Etrin: It really depends on how bad you can live without your PC for 2-3 weeks? Do you use it on a daily basis for vital work related stuff, or just surfing the web/gaming type stuff. If it's the former, then use cross ship. If you can wait (thought it will be painful), just sweat it out for 2 -3 weeks. This reminds me of last summer, when I had to get my monitor repaired and I couldn't use my PC for like 18 days.

Good luck.

If they will cross ship it will save me a LOT of headaches.
Will give them a call.

I purchased it at zipzoomfly.....was googlegear at the time I purchased it.

By the way will xp give me any trouble as long as everything is put back where
it was?

I changed out an asus board once ....and xp said that the ide controller had
changed and I needed to register again.
SAME BOARD....must have been a different model number on the controller.

thanks again for the info

Well it "Should" work right nicely if you just plug the exact same board back in your case. I can't foresee any reason why XP wouldn't load up with the replacement IC7, I mean its the same board. 'But' the only problem I can see is if their are different revisions of the IC7 (and I don't believe there is thought I could be wrong bout this). My board that I bought back on June 3rd is Revision v1.0. So as long as you get the exact same revision board, it will boot fine. Of course it goes without saying to plug EVERYTHING back in each socket and what not before you boot up! So maybe take a picture of all of your connections, or write them down.

But all bets are off if you put in a different revision board, it would probably give you some problems going into XP.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out fer ya!

Boy, don't ya just love it when posters use "quotations," doesn't it just make you feel sooo confident about the posters technical expertise! ;)

Hi,
First of all I'd like to say this is my first post here so please forbear with me.

I have some questions regarding the following issues, since I intend to buy this mainboard with OC in mind and hope for many years of safe usage.

1) What issues have been corrected since last (i.e. preceeding) revision of IC7-G mainboard?

2) What is the latest revision number (1.1 ?)

3) What about reaching FSB frequencies of 290 MHz or above? And finally,

4) is it possible to set up Vdimm to 3.0V and above without any problems? I heard about some Vdimm issues but don't know what it was and under what circumstances it exactly occured.

Many Thanks,
Kolu

setting the vdimm above 3.0 isn't a problem but the vtt voltage (which is supposed to be 1/2 of the vdimm voltage) isn't exactly 1/2 and so people have issues with getting their ram to a decent speed 1:1

if you vdimm and vtt mod your board, you should be able to do nicely 1:1.

lol.... 3rd post with the same questions...

1. max2 vs. max3... not too big of difference besides cooling on mosfets and vdimm up to 3.2 volts and some other little odds and ends...

2. latest rev... i have no idea :)

3. fsb above 290 should be no problem.... it's been no problem since bios... 12 or 13 or so... well it fixed it so you could get above 255

4. refer to my post above
