This new bios is awesome, I gained 400 3D marks. I know that doesn't mean everything, but it's a good sign. I have it on street racer mode.

I updated my bios from the original to 1.4 on my new machine, and I think it fixed a rather frequent random-restart problem I was having. Is this a known problem with the IC7 board, and if so, something that the bios updates somehow fix? I sure would like to think so. A copy of my specs again:

IC7, now updated to bios 14
P4 2.4C
2x256mb Kingston HyperX PC3500 RAM
Antec Solution Series SLK3700AMB case with Antec 350w Smart Power Supply, just stock cooling
ATi Radeon 9800, latest Catalyst drivers
Philips Acoustic Edge soundcard
Linksys NIC
Seagate 120gb SATA drive w/8mb cache
Pioneer DVD 16x
WinXP Home, DirectX 9

I can't get mine to run out of auto, what settings are you using for memory timing. and others?

Could anyone help me out. See my above post for my problem with my O'C attempt.

Thanks. BTW I'm still running BIOS 1.13, and I will soon upgrade to 1.14, so hopefully that will help, but I don't think a BIOS upgrade would fix my lockups/reboots, etc while stress testing?

Memory at 2-6-3-3
All of the CPU settings are manual, but on default settings. The auto setting doesn't work for some reason.

I get maybe 80 more 3D marks, no difference between turbo and street racer mode. But I have already had one "hardware crash" reported by Windows. *sigh*

the 1.4 bios brings honesty to this board!!!

Finally my bios and my OS agree on my ram timings!!!

Now I just have to figure out how to balance my overclocking with my ram timings, game accl and the ram clocks/straps. I wish there was some better documentation for this myrad of settings options. i accidentally OC'ed my corsair to 430 the last time I played with the fsb... thank god I bought good F!@#ING ram.

I WILL NEVER BUY DDRRAM FROM ANYONE OTHER THAN CORSAIR AGAIN

Well nevermind that. I'm experiencing just as many restarts as I was before the bios update. This has become frustrating beyond belief. Time to chuck the PC out the window and forget I even considered getting a new PC. :(

dwb122 sorry to hear of the problems, try this, in windows xp, right click my computer goto properties, tehn into advanced tab, click on startup & recovery & untick the automatic restarts, instead u should get blue screens, which in most cases can tell you what is causing your restarts

ADP,

You can use the onboard lan as long as you install the drivers. I've done so with no problems--no need to waste a USB slot or use an add-on NIC.

dwb haev you tried upping your RAM voltage a notch? It seems to do wonders I'm running at 2.7 and have no pronblems with restarts unless I use an accelerator mode, then I'm lucky to get inot XP at all!

I would second that, dwb122. I called Kingston this week for a tech question for my HyperX PC3500 512MB DIMM. The tech guy said there are some compatibility issues with running the ram at the default of 2.6Vdimm on certain 875 Boards. He said if users experience any problems, to bump up the Vdimm to 2.7V. Another thing I would try first, is to set the 'Gamer Mode' to Auto. If this doesn't work try it still with Auto on, but bump the Vdimm up to 2.7.

Hope this helps.

Thanks psmcginnis.

I tried to do a ipconfig/renew and the cable modem would not set the dynamic ip address. I must have not installed all the drivers. I will give it a try again. I had so many random re boots that I almost stomped on the mb. Every thing is working as soon as I set the memory timing to 2-6-3-3 for the twinx 3200LL. Yes the 1.3 bios patch did not fix this for me.

I'm getting a mis-match between: the CPU voltage as set in bios - 1.525.volts, and what CPU-Z reports -1.488 volts. Even increasing the bios voltage from the default CPU voltage, the voltage reported by CPU-Z is always lower, by about 0.05 volts.

This is normal. Most boards undervolt.

Thanks for the advice. So running 256mb HyperX PC3500 sticks at 2.7 would be 'safe'? Would it be safe to do so at the F1 game accelerator setting? I honestly don't even know what that does for me, except give me a nice bump in 3DMark2001 points. :) I just upped the voltage a couple minutes ago. I'll let you know if it helps.

Well I can run in F1 Mode while running my CPU at its stock speed of 2.4 and default Vdimm of 2.6V. BUT, now I'm trying to OC my system, and I'm running the FSB @ 270=3.24Ghz &2.7Vdimm. Everthing else is default, but ANY of the new 'Game Mode's' won't let me boot into windows. BTW, even back at stock speed, I didn't notice any speed up by using the F1 Mode. But I didn't play any games or anything, so who knows?? I'm running CAS 2-3-2-5.

Hope this helps.

Didn't do anything. The voltage is at 2.7, game accelerator at default, and I still get restarts when running the UT2003 demo, something that would restart my computer. Also, something new that I only noticed a couple times today, the computer will all of a sudden for no apparant reason slow to a crawl. The first time that I happened was right after I brought the computer up, opened IE and went to a page. It suddenly became incredibly slow to about one mouse movement a second, 15 seconds later again restarting on its own. The same thing happened about ten minutes later, without the restart.

I don't even know if it's a problem with my motherboard or what. This is just hell. Certainly not the experience I was hoping for when shopping to put together a brand new computer.

I tried that last night. All I get is a blank blue screen.

Now I don't know what else to recomend, possibly you may have a bad stick of memory, you cna test it with MEMTEST 86, also are you using SPD settings for timing? If all else fails I guess you can use the restore safe defaults in BIOS and see if that helps. I'm trying to figure out why my Corsair twin 3200LL works in Auto but will not in any of the accelerated modes although the BIOS note says at least Turbo should work. I've tried leaving it in SPD and various timings that work fine in AUTO. Corsair I guess is recommending that users of LL with 875/865 chipsets use 2,6,3,2 although I worked fine at2,6,2,2. I tried that also.

I've tried SPD RAM settings. Doesn't help. Using fail-safe default only results in Windows not loading up. I downloaded memtest86 but haven't used it yet. I'm not quite sure which tests I'm supposed to run and what exactly they mean.

Ok, O'Cing my new IC7 and P4c 2.4Ghz So far I have tried the biggest FSB of 279 with a 5:4 Divider and North Bridge set to PSB800. Well now I am down to a FSB of 268, and I still get lockups etc. So my question is for anyone who has successfully O'Ced their IC7 and 2.4C CPU, what is your NB set to? Is it BYCPU, OR PSB800?

Thanks

Anyone try the older cosairXMS3200 Cas 2.5 (v2.1) ???? They run well 512x2 in my current IT7 at 410mhz with 2.5-7-3-3 timings.

Sata 1 RAID:

Anyone try to boot off of this? I was thinking of getting this board and a second Serial Adapter fo my current dual 120GB RAID 1 array.

Running into a issue with my Abit IC7 and was wondering if anyone has simliar problems. I've got a P4/2.4C that will do 283 FSB all night long prime95 stable. This is the problem. I've gone through 4 different brands of 512MB PC3500 DDR, ie Buffalo, Kingston HyperX, Mushkin Black Label and now Corsair XMS.. No matter what I did, couldn't get any of them to run prime95 stable at 270 FSB w/ a 5:4 ratio which puts the ram at 434DDR specs.. Prime95 crashed right away.. If I try 1:1, ie 217 FSB for 434DDR, no problems.. I even tried underclocking the ram, ie 270FSB w/ a 3:2 ratio for 360DDR and still not prime95 stable..

Here's the kicker, I've also got two Corsair 256MB PC3500C2.. These have no problem running at 270 FSB at 5:4 or 3:2 under prime95.. Seems the Abit has a problem with 512MB modules at beyond certain FSB.. Highest I believe I was able to get stable was 250FSb w/5:4 ratio for 400DDR.. Anything above 250+ and it would fail prime95..

I've read elsewhere that others were having FSB problem with two 512MB modules and trying to get above 250+ FSB.. So anyone here successful with two 512MB PC3500 modules with a FSB above 270+?? Thanks..
