Jonnyblaze,

Let me know if you have questions, that's exactly what I have. What HDs are you using, and will they be in Raid0? Also, you should get a 3DMark2001 score of around 18K with no performance improvement at all.

Unfortunately when I try to run any Distributed Computing programs which are notorious for maxing out the CPU usage, I only show a usage of 50% on Windows XP, and System Idle Process stays at 50%. Changing the priority in task manager has no effect of this value.

I'm sure that I'm missing something and would appreciate any explanation that anyone can offer.;)

I am going to make the assumption that you are using a P4C processor. These have HT (Hyper Threading) technology in them. The processor will appear as 2 CPU's in most versions of Windows to my understanding. This is because there are 2 "threads" to the CPU so it can try and execute multiple threads at the same time. In reality, it is just some very good optimization in which the CPU has 2 almost complete execution pipelines contained within it, but it can only work on one pipeline at a time (i.e. the main execution unit can only physically compute on one of the instruction pipes at any given time, but what it does is rapidly switch between the 2 pipes when one pipe is waiting on I/O or is flushing, thus allowing for the CPU to still continue working on other processes when one is halted for some reason).

If the application you are running is not written for multi-processor systems, it will not utilize both pipelines of the CPU and the CPU load will thus not go beyond 50%. If you have other applications also running at that time, then one of those applications will use the second pipeline and you will get CPU utilization aboe 50% when that occurs. So to really max the processor, you will either need to use a program that is multi-threaded, or run multiple instances of that program (i.e. 2 in this case).

Once I sorted out the IDE/SATA bus issue, I've liked it. Was there something you wanted to know about in particular?

Just got the parts in from newegg and built the system, and it wont come up on screen...

the specs

intel p4 3ghz w/ HT
abit ic7-g
kingston hyperx 3500 512mb X 2 sticks
ati radeon 9700 pro AGP
case: antec sx835II 350w power supply

i hooked it all up, turned it on and nothing shows on screen, the fans spin, the lights come on, hd goes, but no display

i tried a known working monitor (used the system on a new mon. the first time)
also tried a known working ati radeon 7500 agp with no luck

also tried with just one stick of the ram, alternating between the two and nothing

any tips? advice? ANYTHING? what could possibly be bad, or hooked up improperly...

at what time do i need to contact newegg for an rma, and how would i know what part? most likely the mobo?

tia, if you need more info just ask or pm

--updated--
removed the ram, got a long beep (4-5 seconds) repeating over and over...im guessing the ram is OK since it didnt beep before

removed vid card, no beep, nothing different than before removing it

this mobo rocks the house man... although we all are having our minor issues from time to time, this is still by far a really really awesome mobo. i cant speak for any other canterwoods, but i LOVE my IC7. ZERO regrets.

Well, my experiences have been fine so far. I haven't done any real intensive gaming on it yet since I spent most of my day updating drivers, probably won't until next week. My experiences setting up are back a page in this thread. So far, mostly good, especially for bleeding edge tech. Crikey, I bought the CPU the day it was first released to market. The mobo was only out a few weeks. I expect some hiccups, and yet I only had a few. HTH.

react - It doesn't seem to be loud to me. hard to say, I have 6 case fans, 2 on the PSU, one on the CPU, one on the northbridge... It seemed to be quiet when I fired up the board without the case fans the first time.

Hi,

Sorry for my ignorance, but what IDE/SATA issue are you referring to? I am having problems with my IDE DVD RW, it BSODs or locks up, and someone mentioned a MB driver issue, but I can't confirm any of that anywhere. It could be a problem with the Intel IAA driver and the 875P chipset, and a combo of SATA Raid0, IDE, etc.

Killer - The full story is back a page in this thread (if you use default settings for the forum). I couldn't use an IDE CD/DVD drive on the SATA bus even when using ABit's Serillel2. Once I switched it to the IDE bus it was okay. I'm not sure whether this is an 875P issue, an ABit issue, or a Windows issue. I could *install* Windows with no problems from a CD on the SATA bus but could not *boot* windows with a CD drive on the SATA bus, and the BIOS initialization is much faster with the CD drive on the IDE bus than it was on the SATA bus. Teething problems with a not-yet-widely-implemented technology (SATA), maybe?

PAT is 'CONFIRMED' to be Marketing, nothing more!!!

WELL THIS REALLY BLOWS!!!!

Not too sure if its a reliable, but I just read a article that says, basically that PAT, is nothing but Marketing. THATS IT. And straight from the Horses mouth, no less. It called PAT, but its really just soupped up, HQ silicon for the Memory controllers.

Thats it!!!!

Here ya go:

The inquirer article

I'm still using my i850 with PC1066. However, I'm probably going to an IC7 in the next few months. Let everyone work out the issues, let the mfg's make some mobo revisions, and, most importantly, let the prices drop. The 850 still meets all my needs.

Ahhh. The problem I have is with the IDE DVD RW on the IDE controller. My Barracudas are on the SATA Raid0 connections, and I am having BSODs, from vanilla installation of WinXP Pro, whenever I try and burn CDs, DVD, on either my Sony IDE RW or my Plextor SCSI CD RW.

Okay, I remember this now, KillerBob. Always when burning? I'll try burning a CD later.

How do you have the SCSI on there? SCSI PCI card? I'm a longtime Mac guy--I love SCSI. :D
