Driving to work in Seattle, listening to traffic radio. Hard to understand what was happening, the early news was so confusing, and really unbelievable. Pictures are worth a 1000 words, when describing something so horrific.
We were working in a deep building excavation, directly behind the Seattle fire department headquarters and disaster relief center. The media , emergency services trucks, all those rigs with telescoping mast filled the area. The lack of planes really hit me, as a pilot I take notice of all planes by nature.
One of the workers was from New Jersey and New York, and brought a radio down in the hole. He wept in disbelief as news of his home town unfolded, and his grief was contageous.
