Two other shockers on a different scale
Mozgov to Lakers, 4 years $64m

what the fuck? homie just got a 300% payraise?

Still trying to find someone to replace Pau Gasol, the Lakers agreed to terms Thursday with Timofey Mozgov on a four-year, $64-million deal.

The Lakers moved quickly, reaching agreement with Mozgov within 45 minutes of the start of the free-agent period. He made $4.95 million last season.

Mozgov is pretty good, but under utilized on Cleveland with Love and Thompson. He'll probably be like a 12 pt/8 reb guy as a starter, so 16/year isnt too crazy, especially for the Lakers since thats probably the best guy they can get to go there.

EDIT: Actually, I thought he was like 4 years younger than he is, so he might be fully formed as a player. Still, its probably the best big man the Lakers can get.

Durant to the Warriors. Apparently posted a letter on The Players Tribune, but the site is hanging for me. :D

This sucks. Was really hoping he would stay in OKC and get one there, now he joins stupid Curry and they will definitely be favoured to win next year. :\

Hilarious how a 73-9 team thinks it needs another max player to compete. Pathetic that Durant thinks he needs to go there to win.

Thats crazy. I thought OKC looked like the best team in the playoffs this year. I dont get why he didnt do the same contract in OKC and give it at least another year. And this probably turned the Warriors into '11 Heat nationally.

Ugh I wanted him to stay in OKC too. I'm sure OKC is pissed since they made some moves already in hopes he's staying. Durant could have gotten a statue in OKC if he would have stayed. He would have been loved for generations if he would have stayed. Now OKC will hate him for generations.

He just needs to come back in a few years and win a championship, then all will be forgotten.

It's just a 1yr plus players option, guys. So if he doesn't win a ring this coming year he'd likely bounce. The team with more to lose here are the warriors since they need to get rid of Barnes, Ezili, and Bogut to free up cap space. What this means is that it'll be slim pickins' for the bench so any risk of injury could really hurt the warriors run. To add to this, I don't see a lot of teams helping out the warriors by picking up Bogut, so the warriors should be prepared to give up a lot more (future 1st round picks) to sweeten any deal.

Agree on both counts. Pretty disappointing. I also thought he could get more money by taking a one year at OKC and then signing wherever after that since the cap will be going up again? I really dislike the Warriors and I've always liked Durant (and OKC really, since I am sort of an old Sonics fan), so not sure how to reconcile this in my head.

Heh, so true.

Also, fuck you for taking advantage of my sickness to get No Lifer status first. :colbert:

Is this like Curry blaming his injuries on his failure to win the finals?

Just playing dude. Sorry to hear you were sick :( must be that Toronto air. :p

Curry never blamed his injuries..

Good move by KD. Could have made more $$ by staying with OKC.

Finally, the Warriors have a new closer than can drive to the hoop. Barnes/Bogut failed them big time. The bench will be awfully thin though..

I hope they can find a gem in a big man.

Everyone keep in mind that Curry only makes 11 MM this year.. highway robbery.

Haha, yep, it was the injury damn it! :D

I guess they kind of had to sign Durant this year because isn't Curry up next year for a new deal and he will obviously get a tonne of dough, making it harder to keep the other pieces and also add Durant.

I don't often agree with Stephen A Smith, but in this can I think he's 100% spot on. Very weak move. And now I hope they lose more than ever, but that is doubtful unless there are injuries.

Meh, that's debatable.

KD just bailed out the Warriors front office, who've insisted all along they would match any Harrison Barnes offer sheet. Now, they don't have to match the Mavs' stupidity. And although it's plausible KD could bounce in a year if the Dubs don't win a title (far from guaranteed), that will be widely viewed as an incredibly weak flip-floppy move. Even more so than joining a super-team you had on the ropes 3-1 in the WCF.

Did you see Ezeli in the Finals? The problem for the Dubs is that they are capped out, so they can't go out and get other good players (besides KD). So strategically they're better off eating the luxury tax and retaining Ezeli. However, that guy played like a bum when Bogut went down. I think you're better off paying some journeyman big $5M than Ezeli $12M (+ extra tax). You're not getting 3 times as much production from Ezeli vs. the journeyman.

If they truly can't move Bogut, they'll move Iguodala instead. Iggy is a tremendous glue guy, and would be scooped up by other teams in a heartbeat. While I'd much rather keep Iggy than Bogut, doing so could arguably leave the Warriors exposed to bigger teams. KD will be playing PF a lot, and as a "center" in small ball line-ups.

Welp, Mark Cuban's stupidity knows no bounds, the Mavs have agreed to take in Bogut...so that looks to be a done deal.

They can't keep Ezeli and warriors have already renounced his rights so he's an UFA now.

Curry's due for next year, so expect Livingston/Iggy + rookies to be up on the chopping block if Durant is staying. This Durant deal could literally cripple the warriors if they don't win the championship.

On the plus side, when westbrook leaves after next year they can move the team back to seattle.

The biggest difference between what LeBron did and Durant did is that when LeBron was with Cleveland, it was literally just him and no one else. Everyone else sucked and the only reason he left is because it's a horribly run organization and they were never going to go anywhere. He made the right decision there.

Durant has been in a good place and a fairly good team that did something good these playoffs. They still had a chance next season to be up there. He could have stayed and they still had a chance to knock off GSW but he left for them. Much worse than what LeBron did.
