*** Official 2014 Nba Season Thread *** (Starters: KD out with foot stress fracture)

Let's start this out with the bad:

Kevin Durant out 6-8 weeks with stress fracture in foot

The Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday said Durant informed the team of "discomfort" in his right foot after practice a day earlier. He underwent tests and the team said in a statement he was diagnosed with a "Jones" fracture -- a broken bone at the base of the small toe. It's unclear how the injury happened.

The Thunder said traditional treatment requires surgery, and recent NBA cases have resulted in a return to play in six to eight weeks.

This could effectively take him out of the MVP race. Look for Derrick Rose to be at the top of this list for the honors alongside Lebron. After watching Rose play in the preseason so far (and World championships), his shot is coming back, his defense is more intense than ever seen before, and he seems to be out for blood whenever he's in the game.

Derrick rose has played very few games in the last two years. He looked like hot garbage during the fiba games this summer.

Durants injury isn't suppose to hold him out for so long that he won't be in the race for MVP.

His offense sucked, but that's why he played, to get the rust off. He's in control of the tempo now, and that plays to his strength.

At the end of the season on the other hand, 'Kylie' Irving will be remembered by how great he played...during the fiba championships. 😉

LOL @ Wade and Bosh complaining about life playing with Lebron. I can see how playing with a superstar can take balls away from them, but they well knew before joining Miami that something like that would happen.

I guess when James is bringing you probably the only 2 rings you'll even see (Bosh), all is good until you can no longer ride that gravy train.

He very we'll could come back to form; I just think listing him as an MVP candidate is a bit of a stretch considering what we have seen from him out of fiba play and also how poorly he played last year before he got hurt.

I'm doubting that kyrie will only be remembered for his stellar play in the summer. He has two new toys to play with that fit him like a glove, and a coach that actually knows what he is doing.

I do think Kyrie will earn his respect more this year the previous years, and my comments were just smack talking previously. 😉 I loved how he played during fiba and the way he 'took responsibility' for games...out of his mind at times. I think Blatt's offense will take more away from Lebron's offense than Irvings, and he should have plenty of opportunities to have a huge impact. I would be very proud of Irving's impact during fiba and very excited for his season. Both he and Rose have reached a level of defensive intensity neither have reached before, even though rose was otherwise awkward during the world cup. Rose will be out to stake his claim as the best pg, and this is going to bring a new level of aggressiveness on both sides of the court that is going to shred most pg's. However against Irving, this should really be a great competition.

I think the interesting aspect of the KD injury is what that does to Westbrook and probably Jackson, who becomes the 2nd scorer on that team now for ~20 games.

Westbrook might average 32-35 points a game without KD on the court, and also lead the league in 'did he really just take that shot?' comments from teammates and fans alike.

OKC should have won a title or two already. They never should have traded Harden, and even with that trade, other than Adams, have blown their picks and other transactions since then. They had 2 1st round picks this year - and they arrange for one of them to play in the 'D' league the whole season? Why bother? McGary? Shockingly, he's hurt already, again.

I'm looking forward to watching T'Wolves games this year, should be some fun highlights at least.

Portland is my surprise 'rise to the top' team in the West this season.

Chicago/Cleveland battle in the east should be fun too.

Tonight the Grantland Basketball Hour premieres at 7PM on ESPN. Looking forward to it myself, I like Bill/Jalen and I think Grantland has some really solid analysts/writers - Lowe will be on and I'm hoping Goldsberry gets some time on the show later as well, very bright guys.

And really bummed to see Beal out already. Again.

Tonight's the night!

Only one game that will probably be interesting as far as ball goes, DAL at SA. Though the other two at least have the Kobe and Brow factor going for them.

In actually interesting news, Steven Adams named starting center for OKC.

This is why Lebron is a nobody. He returns home and has the 4th worst home game of his life. Dude has no control over his game, without all star players, at their 100%, supporting him, and/or the officials helping him and his team, he is nothing. He is just another above average player. Comparing him to veteran hall of famers and even Kobe is a insult to those players.

OKC is trouble, wow, now even Westbrook is gone... West has some pretty good teams and they will make a lot of headway before these guys come back, it will be difficult to catch up. Their home field advantage in the playoff may be at serious risk unless the rest of the team gets their act straight.

No one posted about last night's cleveland game? It looks like a the Cavs have a LOT of work to do.

Yep, but I didn't catch the whole game, just the end and some highlights.

Eight TO's were so unlike James, but I think he was nervous about returning home, knowing how awkward it would be playing in a Cavs uniform again after leaving the way he did.

Now the first game is over, real-life has set in, and both fans and players see that they have a LOOOONNG way to go before they can challenge a team like San Antonio.

Yeah, two games in and already some big injuries. Lakers of course weren't doing anything this year but hate to see a promising guy like Randle lose a whole season already. Shame about Westbrook too, especially given how awesome he was to watch for at least one game lol.

Also BGCP3TVinHD is pretty funny. Basketball gets all the best personalities (except maybe JJ Watt).

For posterity.

anyone here know much about nba jerseys? i wanted to get a paul pierce wizards jersey, but apparently they don't make them because they are nowhere to be found. what is the deal with that?

Word has it Lebron could miss the next two weeks due to knee and back injuries.

I've not been following the Cavs, but when I do see Lebron, it seems as if he is kind of burned out on basketball a bit, especially since now he's right back in the similar role of having to lead an inexperienced team (formerly a generally bad team his first 7years) that I thought he didn't really want anymore.

A lot of miles on those legs, so I get the desire to have minutes reduced. It's hard for me to feel sorry for guy who's obviously overworked but at the same time, had his 2-year deal structured in such a way that allows him to take advantage of the money that will be available to him and other players under the new agreements coming up.

I did find in interesting that he was clearly overheard telling Wade after the Christmas Day game that they'd do great things together again, but since no one knew what he said prior (even James said he doesn't remember what he said either) we have no context, but some are suspecting a reuniting of at least those two that he'd either bolt again, or Wade comes to Cleveland, or it could mean something off the court...who knows.

Just found this interesting.

Yeah, Cleveland is a mess. Defense is horrible. One of their best defenders...Side Show Bob (Anderson Varejao) is out for the season so that doesn't help any either. Then you have lots of leaky news about the coach being woefully underpreparred for the big leagues and Lebron being pouty about the team and hurt.

It looks like the Bulls have a good formula. The emergence of Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose playing very well in the 4th quarter has been working great.

Butler is playing his ass off. He's going to get some serious money thrown at him that Chicago is going to have to decide if they'll match.
