The Saints currently have an elite QB, but they are not an elite team. I don't think anyone can discount them, but when it comes to the playoffs, they really need to learn how to stop other teams from scoring.

We'll see this week how they handle the SF defense. I mean....if the "woeful SF offense" (to paraphrase ICF from earlier) can do that to the Bears D, holy shit. D:

granted, that was an SF offense that has not been seen on the field before last night. Even Gruden had no idea what was going on, and this guy spends every day prepping for these nights. I've read that he spends as much time watching tape, now, as he did as a coach, and certainly as much time watching tape as any currently-employed head coach.

With the Rams, Kaepernick came in the 2nd qtr, essentially running the Smith playbook. He had only before been used as a QB sneak or for trick plays for the most part. Whatever happened last night, the Bears were clearly unprepared on every snap, lol.

The Niners have the offensive talent outside of QB. Whenever I mention the Niners having offensive issues, I am pointing at Alex Smith.

The Saints in the 2012 NFCDS say hello. Smith also played really well against the Giants. that was a special teams loss, and no one really disputes that.

Yes, consistency has been his problem, but his career has been behind a new OC every year.

Brees was shit for 2, 3? seasons (no, I'm not comparing him to Brees. 😀)

Let's be honest here. Peyton Manning is the NFL MVP this year, along with Comeback Player of the Year. Matt Ryan is NOT the MVP.

No, Peyton Manning isn't MVP material, at least not in a run away position.

Comback player of the year? yes.

Honestly, I don't know 1 QB who is even near a run a way with the MVP this year.

Peytons numbers are similar to the 'elite' QBs out there - Rodgers, brees, Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Matt Schuab. Even Andy Dalton is not far off on their numbers.

The only big difference is Brady happens to have half the INT as most the other QBs on that list.

Honestly... I would give MVP to J.J. Watt Texans Defensive End. He has been sacking people like crazy, blocking passes... he is just being an all around beast this season.

Oh Hi, Aaron Rodgers.

Hi Drew Brees

I don't think anyone is looking at Matt Ryan...really?

Matt Ryan was the leading candidate on most people's MVP list through the first half of the season.

Rodgers is probably Manning's competition right now. I don't think Brees stands a chance unless the Saints win out.

I think it's pretty clear to anyone that Brees (with Rodgers a very close second) is the only reason his team has a chance.

The Saints are plain awful without him (much like a few of those Manning Colt teams). The Packers are a much better team, but so banged-up that the importance of Rodgers is more glaring. The Broncos are a very decent team on both sides of the ball.

Now, with McGahee out, let's see how things go in Denver....

The Chicago Bear O-Line
graphics-bowling-444895.gif

The bears offensive line has been garbage for years. Cutler gets a bad rap, but honestly if he had ANY blocking whatsoever he would look amazing, and Forte would be the leagues leading rusher. Instead they get single handedly beat by a FUCKING 2 MAN RUSH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD....

Seriously, the niners rush two guys and they push over 2 offensive linemen a piece... It really shows how horrible the bears o-line is. They will not have an offense until they fix this problem.

I'd throw in Adrian Peterson in both comeback player of the year and MVP discussion. Every game he's been getting healthier and more of a monster. His last 4 games have been impressive.

Nobody's paying attention but Von Miller is having a better season then JJ Watt

He has more tackles for loss and more sacks. He would be in the lead except that Aldon Smith had such an easy 5.5 sacks last night. If Von Miller could play the Bears he would take the lead back for sure

I think sacks are a stupidly over-valued and essentially meaningless stat for what it's worth.

I'd like to see some baseball stats-type crunching to evaluate the actual value of a sack, overall, in terms of the effect on the game, or an individual drive. For one thing, a piddly 0.5 yard sac is currently given the same value as a 10+ yard sac. a sac on first down the same as a sac on 3rd down.

Further a sac on 3rd down is completely equal in value, in terms of stopping a drive, as is a tackle to stop the down. ....except that we don't generally see it that way. Why is it a different value of tackle-for-loss? Why are these separate stats? Why do we steadily award the one defensive player, rather than look at how easy it is to break down a shitty O-Line?

We see x # sacs per player per game = something we should care about.
:\

I know that defensive players get shafted on numbers and this is generally just a way to assess more value when it comes to contracts, but in terms of judging team or player quality and contribution to a game, it means nothing in the end.

Current stats from ESPN sorted by sacks. Wish I could get tackles for losses. Gotta say, was an amazing draft class in 2011 for pass rushers.

Oh, found TFLs from someplace else. Miller 23, Watt 20, Smith 13.

See, thats what I'm saying. Von Miller has 13 and Smith has 15 even after 5.5 sacks last night, Miller is only 2 behind him. If Von gets to play against offensive lines as bad as the bears' o-line he would have the lead. And frankly, he will before the year is over I bet.

JJ Watt is getting all the attention, as he should have in the first 6 or so games of the season, however, Von Miller has come on strong and should be getting discussed. He will win Defensive player of the year if he keeps up his play

The chatter has been building for a few weeks, but Peyton Manning might be your front runner right now. Consider he's leading a team that miracled its way to 8-8 last season to a runaway division title.

Stats and team record are nearly the same for Rodgers, but he's coming off a historic campaign. Part of the drop-off are some injury issues with the Packers, but Rodgers is probably a bit less locked on as well.

Team record often dominates the voters mindset, and Denver does have the easiest remaining schedule in the league.

I'd like to see them split comeback player of the year to AP and Peyton, they are both very much deserving. Would give the edge to AP since Peyton sat out a full season but why not give it to both. Peyton is used to sharing awards since he shared an MVP one year with...damn I don't remember, Dante Cullpepper? 😵

But if Peyton wins MVP they'll probably think that's honorable enough and give comeback player of the year to AP. Which would also be cool.

He shared it with Steve McNair one year in what was possibly the biggest farce of an MVP vote in history.

AP was never gone so how can he be comeback player of the year? He went out at the end of the season and came back at the beginning.

Also where is week 12 thread?

That's what makes it so amazing; he should have been out, but he came back from that injury in record time and is playing as well as ever has.
