Happy Opening Night! The Miami Marlins hosts the St. Louis Cardinals in the Marlins brand spanking new ballpark with that ridiculous homerun animating thing. Game will be on ESPN.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm still hoping that the Yankees-Rays opener will be televised somehow.

mets extend niese 5 years $25 million http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120404&content_id=27919682&vkey=news_nym&c_id=nym
nice to see them keep good player for a change

Solid move. I think he and Gee will do just fine this season. I expect Dickey to be dependable as well. Don't know what to make of Johan and I am not a Pelfrey fan at all and had enough of him and his inconsistency. The NL East is strong so I think maybe...mmm.. 75 wins for the Mets is fair?

I have no faith at all in Jason Bay as he has looked awful in ST and I expect Captain Kirk Nieuwenhuis to take over if Bay truly struggles early. The Mets bullpen is questionable with Chewbacca (Rauch) and Frank Frank (Francisco) closing out games..<shudder>. Parnell has looked great this spring at least. eh...we'll see how the Metropolitans fare but I'm just happy baseball season has started.

i think it is time for jason bay to go, clearly not working for him with the mets. pelfrey needs to go to bullpen where i think he would do better.

lol Ozzie looks annoyed already. Boo birds already out when that ball scooted between Reyes and Hanley. Cards up by 3.

Just saw this and thought of you, raystorm.

The Rays opening day should sell out, but that also could be because of the Yankees. I do hope we average more than 20 fans a game this year.

They usually do sell out opening day, at least I believe they have the last few years. I'm pretty sure they did last season with the Orioles, I was there and it was pretty damn crowded I think it was a sell out.

Also, as far as I know, tickets sold out for tomorrows game a few weeks ago.

Lohse has yet to give up a hit through 5.

Just noticed that this is a one game series. Why??

Probably added after the schedule had been all but fixed as a promo for the Marlin's new park:

Only game scheduled.

WS champs.

When Jacoby Ellsbury came to the plate in the top of the first inning Thursday to face Justin Verlander, they made a little baseball history.

Verlander became the first pitcher to win the Most Valuable Player award to start the following season by facing the runner-up.
