I thought Miggy came into camp in '10 in the best shape of life. In '11 he had all that controversy with the DUI and came in the worst I've ever seen him. I'd say it took him 2 months to shake off that weight.

i can not believe the tigers forked that much over for him. stupid!!!

Mike Illich is made of money and has too few years left to see a Championship in his favorite sport. You'd have seen this kind of spending from him years ago if he and his wife hadn't entered into an agreement that they wouldn't let their emotions run the teams. They said if there could be made a business case for spending then they'd do it. We'll, I imagine when have so much money and so few of years to enjoy it and every child of yours is set for life, that long standing agreement can be broken.

Jorge Pasada retired today, do you think he is HOF material? i don't, i think he was great every day catcher but not enough to go to hall

Prince is a hard player, doesn't get hurt, and a pretty good guy, but the Tigers WAY overpaid for him. They'll be kicking themselves in 3 years.

Yeah, the guy "deserves" over $20 million a year, but nine years is just too long.

Prince's production will drop significantly in the next few years. Mark my words. That 9 years is going to bite them in the ass.

Yeah, that is a long time but at least there is always the DH in the AL. The question is, who will play first, Fielder or Miggy? Hope they worked out the egos before this deal went down, b/c someone is going to be the DH.

The signing of Fielder obviously impacts Tigers star Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera has been the Tigers 1B for the past 4 years, and with Prince Fielder added to the team, who also plays first, the Tigers have a bit of a logjam. They of course could simply remedy that situation by picking a guy they want to play 1st base, and putting the other guy in the DH role. But baseball players can be finicky, especially star players, and more often than not, they want to put a glove on as well to stay in the flow of the game. It also might affect Cabrera a little that he isn’t the highest paid position guy on the team anymore. Not only is he being pushed to another position, he is being pushed by a guy that is making more money, and probably not as good a player.

Slow clap

Though, I am quite nervous about moving Cabrera back to third. He isn't known for his catlike reflexes.

If Miggy just falls down to his left he probably has the same range as Inge is scrambling to. I think he'll do fine. He has a hell of an arm too.

I think the Yankees pitching will be just fine with the additions of Pineda and Kuroda. Resigned Garcia so right now they have 7 viable pitchers.

Yep, I'm exceedingly happy with those two moves. I'm iffy on Garcia, I don't know he has much left in the tank. Kuroda, even if he ends up being a one-and-done Yankee, will give some of our AAA pitchers time to mature a bit more (I don't really think any of them are ready for the bigs). A rotation of CC-Kuroda-Pineda-Nova-Hughes/Burnett could be pretty powerful.

I also hope they stay away from a 6-man rotation. Last year made it PAINFULLY obvious that CC doesn't do well on 5 days rest.

Oh, and anyone expecting Hughes to come close to 17 wins again is delusional.

I can't believe that fabulous home run animating thing for the new Marlins joint is actually being built.

The funny thing is, I'd way rather have the Fielder contract than the Pujols contract.
I wouldn't but I guess most pundits view both contracts as ticking time bombs. Not a matter of if, but when each contract becomes a boat anchor.

Damn, how did I miss the Astros move to the AL? I've been predicting that for a few years now (pretty obvious I always thought).

Next major prediction, DH in the NL.. by 2017
