I don't think pierce will go to LA, but what will be interesting is if boston holds him trying to trade later or takes the 5 mil hit to just dump him.
Why is Boston even dealing a premier head coach for what's likely to be a 25th overall pick in 2 years? I don't quite understand some of Ainge's moves; but he really should just eat the $5M buy-out and let Pierce find his own team on his own terms.

The chances of Pierce having a renaissance first half to bring in another 25th overall pick isn't too hot if the other big guns are skipping town. They'd have to pay Pierce for 50-odd games just to play the trade deadline game.

they don't want to pay a coach $7 mil a year when you or I could do about as well given what the likely talent level will be for the next 4 or so years till the get enough new people in place.

the way doc rivers hugged KG at the end of their playoff run makes you wonder how many of his players knew this was coming

Was listening to some of the post game 7 stuff from lebatarde. On the comedy notes would be: Tony Parker is French, of course he retreatted at the end of the series. Duncan is from the Virgin Islands, after Lebron visits there it will be known as the Isands. You can't spell Manure without Manu. Green thought it was best of 5. Up 5 with 28 seconds to go and the trophy on the court, haven't seen such a choke since 2 girls and a cup.

For discussing the actual game, said only 5 players scored for the heat, had no idea it was that low and of those 5 one was the birdman with just 3 points.

Both teams went with the defend the interior heavy and give up the jumper defense. Over the first handfull of games miami was shooting stinker cold while spurs going extrordinary hot. Miami shifted out of that and had james stick on parker and defend the outside line, this allowed Duncan to have one hot game but even with a rested season his age was too much to allow him to carry to multiple wins.

Clippers movin' on up. With Rivers behind them and a bit more playoff experience under their belt after this year I think they'll be able to make it a bit deeper. Provided Paul sticks around of course, but Rivers should help address that significantly.

Also I don't really harbor the dislike for Stern that most people [here] seem to, but I do wish the administration wouldn't get involved with teams making trades (though evidently the Rivers trade was blocked for a time because there's a rule where you can't include active players in coach trades?).

I think as long as both (or well, all) teams agree to the trade they should let it fly and let them fend for themselves.

Kyrie is awesome. I just REALLY wish he would stay healthy to see him explode for an entire season.

The trade with Memphis landed Cleveland some solid players as well. I think Nerlens will be good, along the lines of a mild Ben Wallace if he puts in the effort. The scoring is not there but the rebounding and blocked shots are. If he gets to scoring more, he will be devastating.

I just do not see Cleveland being "there" after one more year.
Something that everybody is missing on in regards to Nerlens is he is an elite ball thief. The guy was averaging 2.6 steals per game and was on pace to break the steals record at Kentucky held by Rajon Rondo... This is a center doing this which is mind blowing. Only two other centers are in the 4+ blocks 2+ steals club and they are Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson. His offense is also much better than people give credit for as he is a very good passer, can take bigs of the dribble, and can finish with both of his hands. He is an elite finisher around the rim and very efficient when he did look to score (59%). He also posses a baby hook with both of his hands which is pretty rare as most players don't look to develop their off hand.

Doc leaving my team is a saaaaaad day, when he was considering retiring after 2010 I was so bummed out. When he decided to resign in 2011 I was happy, and when it was for 5 years said he was going to be there for the long haul I cried tears of joy. This news is beyond devastating 🙁

Yeah Doc is a top 3 coach. The Clippers tried to be the Clippers at first and totally botch the deal for Doc and lose Chris Paul over a couple of draft picks. Classic Donald Sterling! Not only that but they would have lost all that the organization has worked for and gained in the past couple seasons and instantly reverted to the Clippers of old. But the pressure built up and eventually he was forced to get it done.

Anyways, a great move for the Clippers, and a great move for Doc.

CP3 would do better getting D12 to go with him to ATL! than be a second fiddle to the Lakers and Kobe, respectively!

I thought it was weird that ESPN even bothered asking 5 writers if the Celtics received fair compensation for Doc. Compared to vets, a draft pick is a cheap player locked up for 4 years. But this isn't the NFL where you can find value up and down the draft board. A low 1st rounder is peanuts compared to one of the few championship head coaches active in the NBA.

But I guess the Clippers knew Ainge knew he had no leverage over Doc, and so they continually lowballed until the very end. In the annals of Donald Sterling cheapness, this really isn't a terrible example lol.

The Clippers probably can't get KG this summer due to Stern's influence, but next March around the trade deadline could be a different story. If PP is paid the buy-out, he could well consider a 2-year deal in his hometown. I can't imagine he'll get more than $9M per season?

Boston came out smelling like a rose. A first rounder and getting rid of a head coach that had no desire of going through a rebuild that was still on the books for 7 mil a year. It's really a win for both teams.

Quote from ESPN.com:

Sources confirmed on Sunday the Clippers will sign Rivers to the three-year, $21 million contract. The Celtics, who agreed to release Rivers from the remaining three years and $21 million left on his current deal, will receive a 2015 first-round draft pick as compensation in the deal.

The compensation agreement prohibits the two teams from trading players between now and the end of next season, according to ESPN's Marc Stein and multiple reports.

One source briefed on the specifics of the anti-trade language in Rivers' deal told Stein that the contract provision even precludes multi-team trades featuring three or more teams in which players on the Celtics' and Clippers' rosters are swapped until after the coming season.

That would appear to create at least some wiggle room for Kevin Garnett and/or Paul Pierce to join the Clippers via free agency if either is bought out of his respective contract, but sources say the league -- instead of assessing hypotheticals -- would likely wait until such situations unfolded before addressing those possibilities.

Let this thread die already! Sick of being reminded the Heat set the record for lucking out each time I see it bumped.

*bump*

Did they also luck out when they won 27 straight games? And did Lebron get lucky when he became only the 3rd player in NBA history to get a Triple Double in the finals? And didn't he do it twice? I'm not sure if either of the others did it twice...

And is it luck they're 4:1 favorites in Vegas for next season on the betting lines already? Wanna bet on the next season?

I like the idea of Miami keeping Bosh for one more season. It adds more to the drama. It provides a weakness for the Heat that will make next season more exciting. If Lebron wins a third title, it makes it that much more epic. If not, then Miami can say to him that "we kept you happy by keeping Bosh another year, but we need to restructure." First rule of a talent based industry is to keep your most important talent happy.

Oden instead of Bosh? Please... Oden is made of glass.

I'd take a chance on Oden to replace bosh. But I'd go with a bunch of other options first, Oden would be far down the list. Oden has always looked like a 68 year old man, even when he was in college. Apparently his body is also 68 years old 😛

I still think they gotta get rid of Bosh and Chalmers to improve.

Oden is being discussed as a backup who they'd pay some part of the $2.5 million they have in cap space. I haven't seen him discussed as a replacement for bosh. Only an idiot would sign him for a big contract, given his knees.

That's like taking a chance on dirt to replace food. Greg Oden is a great guy. But he's a worthless NBA player; you can't keep him on the court. He's played the equivalent of one season since being drafted six years ago. I'm all in favor of the Heat bringing him in for a minimum deal, don't get me wrong. But the phrase "to replace Bosh" is absolutely idiotic with regards to that scenario. Remember how well Brandon Roy worked out in Minnesota? He really turned that franchise around for exactly 5 games before he needed surgery again. Oden's knees are worse than that and he's twice Roy's size. He's a loooooooong shot, not a replacement for Bosh.
