their i fixed it for you. only thing that can beat the phillies this year is themselves. they have some key players that are getting older.

I wouldn't so casually dismiss the Braves if I were you.

i think they will fade towards the end of the year. chipper jones is getting old, i know he had good spring but i bet he gets injured mid way through season

I predicted Ichiro will have an outfield assist to 3B for the opener against the A's. I was wrong on the day, but he did just that today instead when he third fellow countryman Hideki Matsui out at third.

In sports news: Only two games into the 2011 MLB season and the Oakland A's mythos that they are a "second half" team and "everyone knows this" is still alive and raging according to Baseball scientists and AL West experts. This phenomena shows no signs of letting up this season in internet forums after the A's lost their opening two games to the Seattle Mariners. Back to you Bob.

Actually, I picked the A's to win the division over Texas. Good pitching always > good hitting.

His fastball doesn't clock above 90 until after June, remember?

Mmmmmhmmmmmm! Ouch.. and now fan interference? (Good call, too, definitely interference) This is not Philly's night. So do they boot the fan from the game for that, or just move him from his seat to standing room?

Man, I just love Clueless Joe's mismanagement of pitchers. 4-0 entering the 8th and they couldn't get away. Seriously, by the 10th pitch, it was obvious Soriano couldn't throw a strike to save his life. And what's this bullshit about not wanting to use Mo for more than one inning? He's perfectly capable of getting 4, 5, or 6 outs...particularly with the game on the line. Mo's going to end up pitching the 9th now anyway, so they blow him anyway.

Joe seriously needs to get a clue. Three seasons of pitching mismanagement is too many. Maybe he should get Buck Showalter to give him a fucking clue...Showalter's doing a hell of a lot better with a much worse pitching staff.

Just got home from the Padres home opener and it was great to see/hear Trevor jogging in from the 'pen to 'Hells Bells' in Petco again. Winning was nice too.

Yup, I was amazed they resigned Clueless Joe. Even more amazed they gave Soriano that much $$$. If he doesn't pan out for them like last night, the Yanks are in deep sht. They can't waste Sabathia's quality starts like that... lucky it's still early.

get your head outta your ass Pelfrey! He stinks at Citizens Bank Park..against the whole NL East on the road actually.

Wow, the Phils are really tatooing him. Even many of the outs are line drive scorchers. Fransisco's last out may have been the hardest hit ball in the game, including Howard's homer.

Meanwhile Blanton is looking like Cy Hume Young. 😛

Lol, Mets also Keystone Kopping it out there and Pelfrey is now gone with no outs in the third and the sacks full.

Pelfrey is 3 - 12 in division on the road. Awful. He has an 8+ ERA at Citizens Bank Park and obviously its going to rise after tonight. He's gotta step it up on the road and he's got added pressure since Santana is out for who knows how long.

edit: yikes.. I think I"m done for tonight. lol

Paging Mr. Storm. Paging Mr. Storm.

Mr. Blanton has terminated his Cy Hume impression and it is now 7-6, one out, with the bases loaded for the Mets. 😱

Jesus Hume Christ! Was 7-0. Now 7-7, sacks still full with two out for the Metropolitans. 🙁

What did I freakin' miss. lol Crazy game

edit: The second I put the game back on the Phils score 3 runs. OFF GOES THE GAME. I'M NOT WATCHING. 😛

It's obviously all your fault. WHY have you done this to your beloved Mets, WHY?

lol @ Boston, ouch. I am sure they will turn it on eventually, but I can only imagine what the sports radio shows are like right now in Boston. Right now Boston is in Cleveland playing an early get away game, currently 37 degrees and fans have parkas on.

Phils pound out 16 hits and clobber the Metropolitans 11-0. Lots to like, but especially for me the many long, loud, line-drive outs Ben Fransisco is making. Maybe better pitching staffs will catch up to him and curve ball him to death, but it's surely a hopeful start.

Meanwhile the Mets didn't pitch and didn't hit. On the other hand, they fielded poorly (again), too. 😉

Still, the season is young and I've seen enough hopeful signs from them to think that maybe their season won't be quite the death march some think.
