Rather have Kobe shooting who was making his shots the entire game than Sessions who had like 5 airballs, Gasol who didnt even bother to shoot, Barnes who also couldnt hit one shot. Only two other players held their weight, that was Hill and Bynum.

Big men lose their aggressiveness if you stop feeding them. Basketball 101.

Once Kobe decided to take over the game, it was all on him, win or lose. They lost, so it is all on him. If he wanted Bynum or Gasol to be important contributors in the last five minutes he should have spent the previous ten involving them in the offense.

Let's see, Job Barry, Magic Johnson and quite a few other players don't agree with you. But whatever, you call it blind - whatever makes your dumbass reason that the Spurs aren't the best team in the league or playoffs right now. No reason to even converse with you at this point, have fun on my ignore list.

Aww..I don't agree that the Spurs are god's gift to basketball, so you ignore me...grow the hell up. Weren't the Spurs the top seed in the west last year as well? I've already gone into quite a bit of detail about how they simply aren't that talented - and, I'll say it again - that doesn't mean they can't win a championship - just that I think, OKC for example, will beat them in a 7 game series.

LeBron really sucked today too, didn't he? I bet that tears you up inside, doesn't it? 40/18/9

Way to turn a sports discussion into something personal with someone who doesn't agree with you...

And finally - I feel better about my NBA opinions when they aren't the same as Magic's, Wilbon's, and Broussard's....at least Barry has some clue - but then again, I don't believe any of those 4 picked the Spurs to win the title at the start of the playoffs either, so I'm not sure what I'm at odds with them on anyway.

yeap. so when it came to the crunch time. where a basket could have won the game he chokes and blames others?

Good to see LA atleast have one team with real players, every Clippers strayed back and congratulated the spurs. The Fakers are douchebags...

It was funny seeing Evans go up to Pop and get a hug and have small talk - odds are there were comments about the Hack-a-Reggie. ()🙂

I had no idea why he did that??? Hack-a-Reggie... did not many ANY sense to me what so ever... being a Spurs fan it was actually embarrassing to watch, we DID NOT need that.

I get the hack-a-shaq stuff in a close game, I'm not sure I get it when you are up 13.

I'd actually like to see that rule changed - those should be intentional fouls - hugging a guy who is standing at half-court is not a basketball play

I agree. It should be just like the clear path foul, 2 shots and the ball.

It's been going on for over 30 years, and in the last two minutes of the game, it does behave like a clear path foul.

I don't understand how anyone can condemn the move - it's no different than icing the kicker. These athletes are paid millions to play this game and they can't hit one of the easiest shots?

For the same reason the game isn't simply 48 minutes of guys shooting FTs. Fans don't want to watch that, so it isn't good for the game.

Anything that encourages or rewards a poorer game isn't something the league should allow, especially when a main defense is that it is how it has always been done.

The league is about movement and athleticism, and a rule like that doesn't promote those two.

After that statement, there's no point in even trying to have a conversation with you about it.

If you want to watch a league where non athletic guys stand around and shoot FTs, I got news for you, the NBA isn't where you wanna be.

There is a reason that the greatest players in NBA history are also prime examples of being superior athletes in their respective eras.

David Stern has said many times that the NBA has the greatest athletes in the world, and it is true. The game itself draws in these uber athletes, and changes that have been made over the last ten years only serve to strengthen that. The NBA's popularity has surged in the same timeframe, so they are hitting the right nerve.

If you take away movement and athleticism from basketball, what are you left with? Stagnant offense and/or FTs.

Funny, because you should take a look at the 80's & 90's and understand that those people played with the same rules, or worse and still produced high scoring games. Quit making excuses - those players should be hitting free throws. Period. If they can't, why not exploit it? They already implemented the rule for under 2 minutes remaining in a half.

Players should hit FTs, that isn't what this matter is about. Even if Reggie Evans goes to the line and sinks a couple FTs that doesn't make the game more exciting. It makes it much less exciting.

The 90s were the lowest scoring decade in the NBA BTW.

Except what you linked pointed out was through the mid-90s, where scores were high 90's-just over 100.

It slows the game down BECAUSE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. That's the whole strategy behind it, sorry that implementing strategy in basketball might scare you, but watching a fluid half court offense like the Spurs and Pacers run is just as thrilling as watching a transition game.

What does that have to do with the "hack-a-<insert shitty free throw shooter>" strategy? A fluid offense is a joy to watch, regardless of whether it's Miami running the break or the Spurs ball movement in the half court. That's the complete opposite of the intentional foul, stop the clock, watch free throws, repeat. Yes, it can be a good strategy, but it's also boring as fuck to watch. What's the point of sports? Entertainment. What's more entertaining to watch, the Spurs crisp passing leading to uncontested layups or guys intentionally hacking each other to stop all flow of the game?

Eh, the point of sports is for those players to win a championship. It doesn't have to be entertaining, simply has to work. The hack-a-player strategy has existed for decades, and it was employed to stop a team from going on a run. I find it amusing that someone paid several million dollars a year can't make at least 70% of his FTs.

At the base level, sure, the point of all sports is competition and the desire to prove that one person or one team is the best. But why are basketball players paid millions while professional darts players aren't? Because more people watch professional basketball because they think it is more exciting. From a competitive standpoint sports is about championships. From a business standpoint, sports is about filling seats in an arena, and that doesn't happen if the product disappoints.

So they should just get rid of free throws, award points and be in their merry way, considering the last minute or two of a close game is basically a free throw clinic.

Where were you bitching about the LAL and OKC game?

no, they should get rid of hugging a guy at half-court when he is completely out of the play - why make it illegal under 2 minutes, but it's ok prior to that? Just modify the rule to make the hack-a-namebadfreethrowshooterhere garbage. It's like Sam Wyche's teams faking an injury to slow down no-huddle offenses - it's taking advantage of a rule that isn't well defined.

Calm down Doug - no one is picking on the Spurs here.

The point of the team is to win a championship. The point of the league is to be entertaining and bring eyeballs. The problem isn't what the team is doing (intentionally fouling) as it furthers their goal. The problem is what the league is doing (encouraging/allowing intentionally fouling) as it does not further its goal.
