Apparently at&t has clarified that ANY existing iPhone customer with ANY eligible upgrade date in this calendar year can upgrade at the $199/$299 price. I was eligible for an early upgrade (albeit at slightly higher than normal subsidize prices for new users) at the end of July, but lo and behold, the upgrade thing on the website says one of my lines is now eligible for an early discount. The other line in my family plan isn't eligible until March of next year.

I figure I can sell my current 3G to pay for the 16GB iPhone 4, as long as the wife approves and agrees to keep her 3G.

Apple did so much to make this truly one of the best phones ever. They did so much to make every phone seem obsolete. But they forgot one key component, THE NETWORK! Because they neglected the most important feature, the feature which every single other feature relies on, I don't see a justification to buy the new iPhone.

Apple lost a customer.

I'm sure they're hurt.

You have to really think, the connection, the network is still the most important feature of any phone. You will be getting charged up the nose from AT&T while getting crappy service. All because of this exclusivity. There just is no point.

I agree, I'm just being an ass. I've had at&t for years now, and I honestly haven't had many problems, at least not more than I'd expect out of any other cell carrier. I get maybe a dropped call once or twice a year, not a big deal. My data connection is always solid in the places it should be, and I get decent, not great, coverage in the eastern hills of Kentucky.

I know it's all based on location, and I understand not everywhere in America is created equal as far as cell coverage and reliability goes. I just think at&t gets more crap than it deserves. Had Verizon got the iPhone exslusively and then sold about 20 million in the span of very little time, their network would be shit, too.

Yea.. I'm a bit disappointed/worried about how little love OS X is getting. :( Oh well.. hopefully it'll be like Aperture and they'll just blow us away with the next version. :D

I'm in the market for a new MBP, and I was hoping for maybe an iLife update or something...(and for Amazon to get with the BTS/student pricing, so I can avoid CA tax)

Otherwise, it's Macconnection here we come!

I just watched the keynote, and I was tempted to upgrade my iPhone 3G for a moment... until I remember all of the network problems I've had with at&t over the past 22 months or so. Sorry Steve, but I'm fed up with dropped calls and downloads that die halfway through.

I also thought about how cool it would be use that nice new screen and extended battery life to watch Hulu on a smart phone... and remembered that Apple will probably make sure that dream that won't happen for years by blocking Flash development or just by simply rejecting a Hulu application because it competes with iTunes rentals. :(

Maybe I'll just wait and see what the next generation Android phones offer for now.

There's going to be NetFlix, I suspect the ABC app will be ported to the iPhone and TV.com

I signed for the iPhone 4 email spam from Apple, so hopefully they'll give more details that way. Just stay tuned to sites like Engadget or AT/ATA :) and they'll have details as they pop up.

I think he's making the point that Apple skipped out on computers this WWDC - it's all about iMobile thingies :D

And I thought that picture was really funny.

It does seem like the trend is toward mobile devices and now they are getting into advertising. I could have sworn i just say steve jobs in an interview talking about how google does advertising very well and how they dont want to over extend themselves.

Now they seem to be on a trend towards no more computers. Someone has to keep microsoft honest.

I think they are shifting more weight to the mobile - be it laptops or phones - space as that is where the money is heading these days. Laptop sales outpacing desktop sales, smartphone sales exploding, etc etc.

Given that they still have a dedicated laptop event, I dont think they are giving up on the computer line or anything, but it is apparent that the more mature desktop OSX is not as in vogue as the newfangled iOS.

I must say, out of all of those only these few appeal to me/are actual "features." I thought the list was weird as i was following it too...i was like wtf man, iads is a feature?

iOS 4 is on the 3GS too so i wont count that. And i only chose the camera for the HD video recording, not the voice talk. still getting one tho :p
