I don't but do read up the memory industry. Any ideas why MU would be rising? My initial guesses would be -

1. Recovering NAND prices are helping their margins...
2. Their ongoing JDP w/ Intel and how well Intel SSD's are received...
3. The possibility of purchasing Numonyx for a fairly low price...

Apart from disliking MU due to the RMBS story, I think it's overpriced. It's the last U.S. memory manufacturer, so it has some relevance and protection, but it's fabs and mem process are way behind Samsung, the memory leader. It hasn't made money for the majority of the past few years and there are so many class action lawsuits against the company that I wouldn't go near it... way too many potential liabilities.

In any case, the monster panic sell that set in yesterday was uncalled for and as you can see from the stock recovering yesterday and today that we're basically back to where we were. It's amazing how many stake holders are in this stock right now, that any good or bad news can send the stock into such a tizzle like what we just saw.
So why was it being investigated as a market "error" then? If it was a panic sell off, then the trades should be valid because people were actually legitimately selling off their stakes, not because of some market "error" or conspiracy.

Why is there not an "investment" forum here on AT? Preferably a whole category with sub categories (stocks, options, futures, closed-end / open-end funds, etc...)..

With all the smart people here, I think we could all help each other make a bunch of $$.

EDIT: also posted in forum issues.

I'd still like a place where everyone posts their trades as they do them, and what their success is.

I suggested this in the past:

The nasdaq rarely ever explains why trades are busted or not busted, and what went on yesterday could have been a combination of factors. The criteria for reviewing trades is pretty broad, some scenarios are obvious (like one I mentioned that happened to me) and some are not. The exchanges do want to protect their interests...not let a market needlessly fall apart, having investors furious over poor executions...yet letting the market adjust itself based on order flow. Personally, I agree with you, if this is what the order flow over the given time period led to, then the trades should be sustained (particularly because there was a significant amount of volume/trades over the short period.) But I also agree that at some point, the exchange needs to step in. There are 'circuit breakers' for the overall market if it moves too much at the opening/during the day, but not for individual stocks, and this is where the exchange uses discretion. We don't know what really went on yesterday tho, but here's some info from on reasons the exchanges review trade activity:
GENERAL ERROR TRADE INFORMATION
In order to promote a fair and orderly market in which to trade, exchanges often make decisions to allow or disallow trades based on a number of factors. The exchanges each have their own guidelines that are used in evaluating executions, some of which are made public and some are not. Currently the exchanges operate as "Self Regulatory Organizations" or SRO's, which gives them the authority to make such decisions. Generally speaking, decisions are based on the following types of factors:

* Pre-market or after-market hours.
* Excessive delay in request to review transaction(s)
* Suspicious trading activity
* "Locked" or "Crossed" market
* News released for security
* Relative volatility for security
* Relative volume for the security
* Trading in security was recently halted / resumed.
* Security is an IPO
* Stock split or reorganization
* Generally volatile market conditions

oh the other hand, GNVC is doing awesomely, company is being way to quiet, they are supposed to be at the biotech showcase 2010 conf next week http://www.ebdgroup.com/bts/ , should at least have a PR for that, but nothing yet, so maybe something is up.

PR was released this morning, president/CEO is speaking. Up again (7%) today too.

I still think we have good news coming. The big question in my mind - what's the stock worth if everything comes up roses? and how successful does it have to be to become widely adopted?

odd, cards fall right and it's looking like I'm going to be getting out of BK, AAPL, GNVC, and maybe RMBS this month, as well as one or two losers to offset some gains. I gotta start working on the next thing. Ideas?

A thought on RMBS - would samsung and some of the other defendants want to avoid making news on the trial / settlements during CES? headlines like "samsung announces new thin LED tvs, owes $9 billion" don't sound too good. CES ends on the 10th, trial is supposed to start the 11th - narrow window for something to happen...

Good, odd day today. Anyone getting ready to short?

Yea I have a few big short positions which has kicked my ass so far but I don't think that'll last. I'm short on the US markets, short on gold but long on commodities and long on emerging markets. I know it doesn't seem to make sense but I think I'll make some money.

GNVC upgraded to BUY by Roth Capital Partners. Stock at up to $1.59 (~10%) premarket with 500k volume (1.9M avg). Could it take off?! I'm kicking myself for not picking up more when I could have...

My 250 shares of BAC and 1500 shares of C are now in the money ~6% each. Thinking of selling C soon and holding BAC.

looks like another good day for me...I think I am up over $15k already, and this is only the 2nd week of 2010. I was at my wife's grandmother's funeral yesterday, so I couldn't do much trading until later in the afternoon, which worked out for me, I might've sold some GNVC during that big drop in the morning. I bought more ONT and GNVC after the burial with my new Droid phone, sorta just to test out the phone...too bad my 10000 shares ONT order was only partial filled with 4000shares at 0.59, and I don't think it will ever get filll at 59cents now. You see, I promised my wife's grandmother that I will take really good care of her grand daughter if I become uber rich...so maybe she asked my prayer. ;)

I bought some ONT today around .75. Will see what happens.

My GNVC is up after only buying a few days ago. Should I sell?

What do people think of ETFC, VG, and SIRI?

The ONC deal was amended for google to give ONC shareholders $.15 a share on top of .0010 shares of GOOG for each share of ONC.

Goog is a $600 stock (multiplied by .001 = $.60)

$.60 + $.15 = $.75...which is exactly where ONC is trading right now.

Unless I'm missing something (just briefly read the announcement pr), or if you know something that's not out yet ;), the stock wouldn't be expected to go anywhere with GOOG at this price.

/edit: corrected math

Goog is a $600 stock (multiplied by .001 = $.59)

$.59 + $.15 = $.74...which is exactly where ONC is trading right now.

For me, ONT is GOOG Call option that doesn't expire until the deal is secured :p Since Google reports the financial on Jan 21, I will hold onto ONT until then at least. I mean, if Google hits $ 650, then ONT should be at $ .80. Of course, if Google hits $ 550, then ONT should be $ .70 :p

My cost for ONT is 0.57, so, it would take GOOG to be $ 420 for me to loss. Worth a bet!
