Whatever team you like, there are 6 total hits in this game. Gotta love the duel.

Cody Ross back up. Let's not see #7.

As I told my buddy, its about damn time. It's embarrassing to watch teams walk hitters to face Rollins and Howard. That should just never be an option, ever. These guys need to step up.

What do you think Charlie said to Oswalt?

EDIT: Do you think it was a Ric Flair quote?

Lol, like you, I love Charlie. He lets his players play. I was saying out loud when that semi-idiot announcer was saying it was a good time for Romero and Charlie was probably going to take Oswald out, "No he isn't."

And he didn't! I LOVE Charlie!

I had started to text my friend, "Romero coming. Hope he's back on the roids"

It's never a good time for Romero. Just because he's a lefty and a little better than Jack Taschner, doesn't make him an option in the postseason. If it's "time for Romero" in the 8th, might as well skip right to Madson and actually have a shot at the out.

I really miss guys like Scott Eyre. Or, even a few years older, Rheal Cormier. Those guys were actual lefties who could get guys out. Eyre, old and grey, could even gasp face a RH and get the out.

Wait, what the hell is Madson doing in there with a 5 run lead? He's thrown way too many innings since the break. Contreras should've been the guy.

I guess I also miss the JC Romero that was actually a really good 8th inning guy. Of course, he was roided up.

Yeah, I hold my breath every time he comes in these days. Plus, he's always had a flashy, meathead attitude about him. Not my type of ballplayer.

You know, if Ibanez makes a catch like that last night, we win the game...

Yeah, yeah, but playing the isolated "what if" game is never productive or pretty and is principally for fanboi losers who don't want to accept that their team lost.

The Phillies lost that game. Not the umpires, not some other fluke, the Phillies lost it. I was trying to explain to my emotional, occasional Phillies fan last night that nothing is written in stone ever and that even the best of teams lose nearly 4 out of 10 times they play, and that any team good enough to make the post season can beat any other team there in a short series.

That's effing baseball. That's why they play 'em!

And with all that:

Phillies Win!

Yeah, I know. Besides, that statue in left field, Pat Burrell wouldn't have even gotten his glove on either of those. I don't actually blame Ibanez. I do still have a bit of a problem with the ump because he was giving that strike at the knees the entire night, before and after. Halladay shouldn't have thrown it twice, but he also shouldn't have had to. We were getting some borderline calls tonight though, so it evens out.

Gotta hope this team is ready to go on Tues afternoon. The Giants' park is definitely a pitchers park, but of the two teams, ours has the power to actually hit in it. I really think we need to take the next two out west.

Must win for the Phils and they did it. JRoll got hot and they won like I predicted. Walking to get to JRoll with the bases juiced was a horrible decision vs a flame throwing righty (he eats them for dinner in the clutch).

Was reading the other day that the core of the team has been together since 2007 when they started winning: Utley, Rollins, Howard, Victorino, and Ruiz. In fact, they've played the most games in baseball history postseason EVER.

Howard has started 33 consecutive postseason games over the past four years. But what makes that especially notable is that he's had so much company. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz and Shane Victorino have been on the same lineup card in every one of those games. And the Elias Sports Bureau tells us that no other team has ever had five players who started that many consecutive postseason games together.

Just amazing what those 5 have done for a franchise that had just set the record for most losses in baseball history (10,000) in 2007.

Yeah, which is why I would have never forgiven Amaro for letting Lee go so cheaply if he hadn't replaced him with Halladay and then done what was needed -- getting Oswalt -- to back this group up.

The Phillies are simply not the kind of cutting edge organization likely to have a group commensurate with these guys again anytime soon. THIS is their rendezvous with history. Not seizing this extended moment and running with it would have been a crime.

I agree with you 100%. The probability of bringing up 4 guys together and having them all peak at the same time is slim to none. 5 if you add in Hamels. And think of the odds when you account for Vic being a Rule 5 pick. And Werth being cast off from 2 other teams.

It just doesn't happen often within the same franchise. We don't have the scouting that teams like the Marlins or Twins do, because we're sort of big market, sort of not so resources just aren't focused in any one place. And we can't afford to buy the kind of talent that the Yankees can. I'd argue neither can the Sox or Mets, but their owners are probably happy on thinner margins, instead riding the value of the franchise itself.

It sucks to think, but I'm just south of 30 and this might be the only Philly winner I see in my lifetime. I'm talking all 3 sports of which I'm a fan, too.

My gut says ownership needs to overpay Werth to stick around. Spend a few seasons making less profit, but build the legacy. The fans will stick with this team, and the core has dynasty potential.

Dayum, that was a foot from a leadoff double for Kinsler.

Cliff has got wicked stuff tonight🙂 Perfect thru 2

Wow Cliff beats Gardner to the bag on an infield hit to remain Puurrfect thru 3

They pushed Cliffs pitch count up that inning but he still has 10 fewer pitches than Pettitte's 74. We need to get on Pettitte in this inning and get him out of there

This game must be approaching the record for broken bats? I wonder if they keep such records? This is getting ridiculous almost every batter so far through 4 1/2

Cliff is simply amazing. Epic fail for NY with all that money not getting him when they had the chance.

Don't worry, they'll give him CC Sabathia money this offseason. The Yankees know how to give out contracts like that. Difference is, Lee would be an actual ace.

Intresting paradox to this series is that if the Yankees want to sign Lee in the offseason they need to beat him now. If Lee carries the Rangers to a World Series then it will be much more likely he will stay in Texas IMO.

To be honest, the only reason for Lee to play in NY is if they're the high bidder by a lot. Otherwise, why would he want to play in a pressure cooker on an aging team? With their budget, the Yankees always will have a shot to win it all, but if it were me I'd take a couple mill less to go to a contender that didn't play in that sort of market.

Basically, if I were an athlete, I would command a high premium to play in NY, Philly, Boston, or Chicago (media/fans are insane - Chicago is borderline) or LA (fans are apathetic unless its the Lakers).

Cliff Lee is a great fit for Texas. He should stay, as much as I miss him in Philly.
