Article.

As he filed for arbitration before the KHL picked him up, they feel he owes the Wings another season.

Quick update here. KHL has put Hudlers contract on hold until the Arbiter and the Wings make a decision. If the wings choose to agree with the Arbiter he stays in Detroit, if not he goes to Dynamo.

Article.

Theo Fleury wants to come back to the NHL. Why do I get a gut feeling that Doug Wilson is going to give him a shot like he did with Claude Lemieux? LOL

Oh ya, gonna win 1+ Cups now. Mark my Words!

Let me guess, front loaded?

Yeah, I'm sure Roberto Luongo is going to play for twelve more years. The salary cap is a complete joke at this point.

Quite possible......... Roy played till he was 38 (he could have played longer), Hasek into his 40's and Broduer is like 37 or 38.

Most likely he will play until he's 40.

I think he is just getting into his prime. Goalies don't start getting better until they are in their 30's 🙂

I'm wondering what the Avs are going to do with their ridiculous number of defensemen. Liles, Salei, Foote, Cumiskey, Clark, Hannan, Wilson, Preissing, Quincey...they're blue line is as crowded as the Islanders' net. And not necessarily with any premier, big-name guys either...I'm not sure where they're expecting goals to come from either. Hejduk's performance was off last year...well, everybody's performance was off.

So much hate on the TSN article on the Luongo signing.

Lots of homers and haters.

Cheers,
Aquaman [homer........ but a sensible one]

Anything's possible, and I'm not blaming the Canucks either. But this contract as well as the contracts for Zetterberg, Richards, etc. are clearly designed to circumvent the cap. You never saw deals like this before the cap.

You should check out the TSN forum.......... all the haters saying that it's illegal and that the Canucks are cheaters. It's all perfectly legal so why not use it?

I personally think that he can play till the end of his contract because goalies are more durable then forwards & defense because the forwards & defense play more physical the goalies.

Aquaman

I think they never saw deals like that before the cap because clubs didn't care really........... Detroit & NYR would pay total 70 million + for team salary.

You can't go hog wild and sign 8 guys at 8 million a piece anymore (not that anyone did).

Now with the salary cap you have to use these long contacts to make your team more flexible and fit within the cap.

Cheers,
Aquaman

That's pretty much why I don't go on those sports forums. Clearly it's not illegal, the league approves all player contracts. I don't think it's useful to say that he 'could' play to the end of his contract. I mean, maybe he'll play until he's 45, who knows. I think it's pretty unlikely that he'll be a $5 million player at the age of 42, the reason the contract is so long is so that the Canucks can build a stronger team now and defer the cap hit. This doesn't make them cheaters but it does undermine the concept of the cap.

Honestly, I think you can fix this with one simple change: Have the cap hit equal whatever the salary is for that specific year. So if you want to pay Luongo 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 4, 2, 1, 1, 1 or whatever it works out to, fine, but you have to swallow a $9 million cap hit the first three years with the hit declining after that.

Training camps are starting soon........... bring on the pre-season games 🙂

Go Canucks Go!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I hate a sports season without any significant hope about my teams. The Cleveland Indians suck, the Bills are going to suck, and the Sabres are going to be mediocre.
