The Giants have a decent chance. They are a scrappy team that manages to hang around in games. They remind me a lot of the Patriots in their first Super Bowl run vs the Rams. Not quite as good, but similar in resilience. Give them the opportunity and they are more likely than not to seize it, unless their FG kicker has to win the game for them. Then they will apparently need multiple attempts.

The Pats need to raise their level of play back up. They looked really vulnerable most of their recent games.

I don't think the odds are right on this one. I think it will be a close victory won by the patriots.

I think it'll be a close game... I mean, the Giants are playing out of their mind right now, on a roll... kind of reminds me of the Rockies during baseball season.

Wait, the Rockies hit a New-England team and got roasted. Bad analogy... 🙂

The Giants were *supposed* to lose to Cowboys by a ton, and they won... they were *supposed* to get creamed by the Packers, and they hung in there and won (Damn you Lawrence Tynes!)

The Patriots have definitely looked beatable lately...The Chargers had a TON of chances, they just choked. I don't see the Giants doing that, even with Eli Manning at QB. He's looked pretty good in the playoffs.

There is a large difference between choking andbeing unable to execute.

Teams are looking closer at the Patriots to spot vulnerabilites and figuring out how to exploit them. However, the Patriots have seemed to be able to adjust/counteract.

And the Giants also showed flaws; you can be sure that the Pats will attempt to exploit those also.

This is probably the first Super Bowl I don't care if I see or not. The Patriots have 2 players I despise (Harrison = Dirty Player & Moss = Punk Bitch) and the Giants have a Manning (I can't stand him, his daddy or his brother). My interest in the NFL has been on a steady decline for a couple years now...guess this is the net result....I don't give a shit about the Super Bowl. I am ready for CFB spring practice to start though.

Does anyone honestly think the Giants have a chance?

I mean like seriously, without lying to yourself or us.

Dr. Z does apparently

KT
And Gary Myers, too.

Local newspapers don't really count. You know they're biased.
The media? Biased? The hell, you say!

As long as the refs stop being biased...

I don't know if I've ever written a more difficult sentence.

I couldn't bear to see that sniveling bitch Eli Manning hold the Lombardi trophy.

AMEN! I hate that bastard and the Giants! Go Bills! (next year) 🙂

LOL, I'm already for the Pats, but I just love those comments!

Dr. Z is an idiot. He makes predictions just to stir shit up sometimes and it's really frustrating to think he gets paid for what he does. He also writes as if he's the ultimate football authority, and that's annoying too. I usually skip his section in the Fantasy Football Plus insert.

Eh, the guy has more football knowledge in one fingernail than you do in your whole body I would guess.

I personally think he's great and I learn a lot from reading his columns; plus he can actually write, unlike the majority of the sports"writers" out there.

brady had a bad game against the colts, weather aside.

but this is for everything right here, and nobody rises to the occasion better than brady and the pats. of course, giving belichick two weeks to prepare his team over coughlin doesn't bode well for the giants, especially their secondary and eli.

the gints may be able to run the ball if the pats want to take away burress and tooomah first, but i think they'll let them throw first and stuff the run first.

Sure, because a team winning 10 games on the road (an NFL record, incidentally), including three playoff games, is not "rising to the occasion" either.

The Pats aren't so exceptional in "stuffing the run", and they didn't have to face Bradshaw in week 17, either. Also keep in mind that Plax wasn't at 100% in the previous game, and he sure seemed close to it on Sunday now with two weeks to add to the recovery.

One forgotten area seems to be special teams. I just looked at the stats, and the Giants have the 5th best kick returner in the league (Hixon) and the best punt returner in the league (McQuarters). The Pats don't have anyone comparable in the rankings (1-2 returns with a high average isn't really valid, even then they aren't great). Special teams could be a significant factor -- let's hope for the Giants it isn't Tynes missing field goals again!
i wasn't disparaging the gmen and what they have done. but i think unless theres a hurricane in which brady couldn't throw (it'd have to be above cat4), then the pats will have their way with them.

Isn't it weird how Payton and Eli look alike? Would it be that abstract to think that they could switch them for the game?

Giants are going to give the Pats a run for their money.

heh, i saw ozie calling matt light dirty for playing to the whistle. personally, i like watching mankins abuse people.

I disagree about the writing part, but I've only ever read his section in SI so that could be a poor basis for judgment.

And I'm not calling into question whether or not he is more intelligent than I am, I'm calling into question whether or not he is the absolute football genius he makes himself out to be.

That's funny though because I actually find him to be relatively self-depricating, which is one of the reasons I like him so much. He's certainly not an idiot by any stretch of the imagination.

Giants: 'We Almost Beat The Patriots Once, We Can Almost Beat Them Again'

http://www.theonion.com/conten...most_beat_the_patriots

NEW YORK?As they come closer to their Super Bowl clash with the formidable Patriots?the team they nearly defeated in late December?the Giants are confident that they can come close to beating the undefeated AFC champions on football's biggest stage.

"This team has already tasted victory against the Patriots," head coach Tom Coughlin said Monday. "By which I mean we were so close to victory that we could taste it. True, we did not actually experience that victory, but we came as close to beating them as anyone else has this season. That's the kind of team we believe we are, and I think the Super Bowl will prove that."

Couglin and his assistant coaches have been painstakingly breaking down game films from their Week 17 meeting with New England, analyzing every vital, near-victorious second for anything that might help them come that tantalizingly close to winning for the second time in as many months. They acknowledge that the Patriots are very good indeed, but the Giants believe they can draw on the experience of that near-victory, the confidence they discovered in barely losing to undefeated New England, and the lessons learned in forcing Bill Belichick's juggernaut to come from 12 points behind and beat them in the final minutes.

"This team really believes they can come close to winning the Super Bowl?very, very close," Giants quarterback Eli Manning said Tuesday after spending the morning watching film of his Dec. 29 home loss, film that laid bare the crucial interception he threw to Pats corner Ellis Hobbs. "We can come so close to beating them, so very, heartbreakingly close, that every player here will take it to their graves."

"This will be one to tell my kids about, that's for sure," Michael Strahan said. "If we can pull it off and almost beat these guys, they'll be showing those highlights until the end of time. When I die and come before those Pearly Gates, St. Peter himself will look down at me and say 'So, Michael, what was it like to be an eyelash away from winning that Super Bowl against those Patriots?' And Heaven itself will hold its breath while I tell them how we almost did it."

Meanwhile, in Foxborough, the Patriots are being careful not to give the Giants any bulletin-board material.

"Yeah, they good, they good," wideout Randy Moss said when told of the Giants attitude. "They got a good team. I guess we can't get too upset if they think they can nearly pull it off. Plus, hey, you got to admit, it ain't bragging if it's true. And they did nearly almost come close to practically beating us, come to think of it."

"Didn't, though," Moss added. "18 and oh, baby!"

Still, the Giants refuse to be completely intimidated.

"We stood up to them once, hit 'em in the mouth, and made them beat us," Coughlin said, noting that in the previous meeting, the Giants defense put the Patriots in the challenging position of having to score three times over the last 20 minutes of the game, which the Patriots naturally did with time to spare and without apparent effort. "And mark my words, that's what we're going to do in the Super Bowl?meet their strengths with ours, play as hard and as fast as we can, and force them to eventually beat us."

"Oh, crap," Coughlin added. "Crap. We're going to lose the Super Bowl."
