This I have never understood. The switch from double wishbones to mac pherson struts have NOT hampered the Civic/RSX's handling prowress (and was done from a packaging/cost standpoint). I guess people just have to have something to complain about. The Porsche Boxster, 911, and BMW M5 all use mc pherson struts up front. I don't see people bitchin' about them;)

u sure? i'm pretty sure i saw slower times in car and driver and consumer reports etc because of the switch. they always mention the new civic as not being quite as sure footed as the old o

You haven't even seen the new accord yet :D

The truth of the matter is, the Accord has more polish than the Altima. From the interior to its build quality to it's overall structure, and that's coming from a vehicle that was released in '97 vs '01. The Accord isn't the car with something to prove here.

Where did you read that the build quality of the Altima is subpar? The materials of their interior is sub-par..and finish is subpar in terms of less noise insulation (which a couple of dynamats solve), apart form that..the car is built quite well. I even remember the Syrmna plant getting awards for its quality. Check the gaps between the panels..they are minimal and consistent all across the car.

Also Nissan already addressed the interior materials would be of better quality...so I don't see whats to lose for the Altima. The only problem that I find is that its too bloody big! But apparently that's what people want.

Anyway, I'm positive the Accord will be a big hit and it probably will eclipse the Altima in sales. The pics of the new Accord make it look like the new 6 though.

I sometimes think those mags bitch just to add filler to the page;) They make it seem as though Mac Pherson struts are somehow evil.

About the suspension setup, its not only its design, but about its tuning as well.

Porsche's Macpherson setup is extremely well tuned..which is why its so damn good. Honda has mostly used double wishbone on all its cars, so this is a different step, maybe a step backwards depending on who you talk to. While the new RSX/Civic handle good, many have said it doesn't have the feel or precision of the older Civics/Integras.

I have no comment since I haven't driven either car hard, well I did drive my buddy's 97 Civic SI (your EX coupe) and it handle pretty good for a stock econocar.

Can't wait to see the new Accord tomorrow. I'm sure the Altima will still look better.

<< [regret phase starting] >>

I'm definitely sure you won't get a 2003 Accord for $2K under invoice any time soon. Just enjoy your Accord. :)

True. If I got a new '03 Accord this year I'd be paying retail and that would just eat me alive.

Well I'm really impressed- I sure hope the debut model that is unveiled tomorrow looks like those white cars at the hotel. Looks really slick! The Accord has long been an extremely high-selling, favorite nameplate, and I bet this will only boost the model back up to late-90s levels before the new Altima and Camry came out. I'm really digging the V6 + manual... wtg Honda!

Altima is still the one to beat if you are under 40. I know you are going to tell me about Camry sales, but a geriatric following does not a nice car make :D
Best V6 in US. I know Honda claims it will get 240 hp, but of course it will still be a gutless no low end Honda. Just holding out to see the improved 2003 Altima interior. If it's close to the Nissan Murano interior, it will be the best midrange family sedan by far.
Also, all of these critics bashing the Maxima multi-link beam rear suspension need to drive a maxima with a rear sway bar ($125) installed, and shut up already. :D

Which American car would you recomend instead? :p

Honda makes superior products. Admit it.

Honda even makes better lawnmower engines than we do. :D

Well its now almost 10am on the west coast and still no new pics. C'mon, can't anyone make a run by Hollywood & Highland and snap up some pics??

Official reception won't begin until 1PM, and most of the actual drive testing and product presentations are tomorrow :frown:

Well a day goes by and still no pics. Lots of ignorant, annoying fanboys claiming to have pics on all the forums, yet they're the same Photoshop sh*t we've seen for months now...

According to the schedule we should see something by either 9:30 tonight or 11:30 tomorrow morning. I wish I could find a live webcam or something to that effect.

If anyone here lives in the LA/Hollywood area, please take your digital camera to the Hollywood & Highland area tomorrow and try to grab some shots! The press will be driving around in open view so it shouldn't be hard to get a shot!

Just wanted to say thanks for the awesome thread, all the information and your updates ... makes life for lazy ass people such as myself a little easier.

I drove my Accord SE to work today instead of taking the bus :D

Sorry guys, still waiting. I talked to someone else on another forum and they said they would go by this morning on their way to work. Of course, he may have driven by too early, or didn't see anything, or he may didn't go at all (hell he could be some kid without a car for that matter!)

PLEASE! If there is anyone in the LA/Hollywood area, please run by the hollywood & highland ave area and snap some pics of the new Accord (hint its the car you've never seen before with an <H> on the hood!)
