**OFFICIAL**1,000 post minimum for ATOT? **CONFIRMED**

Page 3 - Seeking answers? Join the AnandTech community: where nearly half-a-million members share solutions and discuss the latest tech.
So therefore, unless you have 100,000 posts in P&N or ATOT, you cannot post in the Tech sections? I like that idea. 😀

I would think that the easiest solution is a vote off of the island. We do it here, but there is not too much to it. I would say that that would be a mod nightmare and who sets the standards.

The others solutions do require modifying the BBS code. Not sure how much control AT staff has over that. That would also be additional DB lookups and writes (fields), so it could possibly reduce response time. I would think that there is enough bandwidth for it on the servers considering what it handles now. Just need the FuseTalk source and the right to modify.

Do you even understand or comprehend English?

but there are others that are better (see: arstechnica, need to pay for non-technical, but would be similar in result). i like the idea.

At the very least, I believe such non-technical postings should not contribute to a members post count. It looks silly when Diamond members or such (from OT & PN) actually do show up in the tech sections and ask a nOOb computer question like "how do I install windows". Prolly, minority opinion but I think your post count and status reflect (or should) somewhat on tech knowledge and provide some assurances to the new folks that show up here for tech support.

I think this is a GREAT idea, P&N and OT posts aren't reflected in your post count.

Bill

Agreed, also the FS/FT and Hot Deals posts aren't reflected in post count would be a nice extension to that idea.

Yes, Oldsmoboat, I comprehend English. 🙂 I was twisting the point to its logical, non-conclusion. I do not think that adding restrictions are practical and I was making a point through irony. N0cMonkey is trying to solve an issue. I offered my view of possible, reasonable solutions. Of course, the first paragraph was just fun with Fern's comment. Maybe I should have quoted it.

I'm thinking familiarity with non-OT forums would be increased, so computer questions might make it to the proper forums. :Q

That's what Nik is for. 😉

 to the idea, but merely because I don't post a whole lot. I DO agree that the quality of the posting has gone way down as of recently, and I do understand why the veterans want to pull a round table and go over some ideas to fix it. But it is going to leave a lot of us who have been with the board a long time but only post ever so infrequently out in the cold. Should I start neffing now to make it 1000+? 🙂

Yes, good extension to the idea

🙁

You've got 1,000 posts though, so you'd make it in under my rule.

Oh ok. HUZZAH!

I want to get rid of you.

Who ARE you? 😕

i'd like to get rid of you too if we're taking a vote. wait maybe i'm thinking of someone else.

While locking stupid people out of OT is a good idea, putting in place a 1000 post minimum will just create thousands of random, useless drivel in the rest of the sections of the Forum. At least at the moment, that trash is restricted (most of the time) to OT and the PlaypeN

Confused
I think the same. Making them reach 1000 posts to get into OT doesn't mean they'll make 1000 useful posts 😉 But whatever.
