Officer peppersprays jaywalking sixth grader

When a 12-year-old girl becomes combative with the cops, you just know she's going downtown. "[She] became upset and began to curse... The girl also walked away and ignored four more orders to stop and put her hands behind her back, he said. The girl, who is 5 feet 1 inch and 134 pounds, threatened to hit Roberto and rolled her hand in a fist." And that's when he sprayed her. But here's the best part: "The girl then knocked the spray can out of Roberto's hand, so the deputy wrestled the girl to the ground and handcuffed her."

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

"5 feet 1 inch and 134 pounds"

Yea, she's not exactly a little girl. Fat people are hard to bring down 😉

Good for the cop. That stupid kid needs to learn to 1) listen to a cop; 2) not be a clueless moron.

ya those dangerous 12 year old girls....

I don't understand the decision to ticket 12 year olds. Since middle school is only for 2-3 years, this ticketing will need to go on for several weeks every other year forever. The amount of police time and money spent to do that definately isn't worth it. Instead do a one time fix of the street so that jaywalking across a busy street isn't required.

5' 1" and 134lbs is a sizable human being. And fighting back against a cop is not the wisest thing to do. Besides, how many schools have been shot up by kids, even pre-teens? Or stabbings? Fights?

The cop did the proper thing.

if the cop cannot physically restrain a 12 year old CHILD w/o the use of mace...he is obviously unfit for law enforcement.

Deputies seeking to stop accidents along busy Federal Highway have been ticketing Olsen Middle School students for the past several weeks.

Suppose they could erect one of those fly-over sidewalks? But at what cost? And who will pay?

What if the cop is 5'' 2" qand 150lbs? I'd classify that as a threat to him 😉

I agree.

And damn, she is big for a 12 year old.

I'm sure he was trying to avoid a physical confrontation.

I can just imagine the hue and cry if he first wrestled her to the ground w/o first trying a non-violent method.

Ayup...

"After the last warning and order, it became apparent that I had to choose between a physical fight and using the pepper spray," Roberto wrote. "I sprayed her in the face."

I'm sure that is what he was supposed to do. Pepper spray is the most non-violent way to take someone down. If this little sh!t still was giving him problems he obviously had to do what he had to do. Cop did his job, plain and simple.

The sad part is that the kids parents are probably going to sue the cop and the department.

are they going to fire this scumbag cop????

Sounds to me like the girl was a scumbag. Not the cop.

she may very well have been a "scumbag" i still dont see a reason the cop had to use mace.
he should be fired and hopefully sued by the family.

What's he going to do? Let the girl go because she she unlawfully ignored a police officer? He did the correct thing, especially since she was obviously being agressive.

What should he have done then? He was trying to avoid a physical confrontation. You keep avoiding that question. Should he have just let her go?
