Would this 160gb drive work in a Tivo HDVR2 DirectTV receiver? Don't burn me, I'm really new to the Tivo mod thing. I just thought someone might know off hand.

Answering my own question, it looks like WD has a bootloader w/their data lifeguard tools that will let you access the full drive if your hardware doesn't support it

Yes.

Correct.

Nope. It's likely because ATA133 is more widely used now and manufacture probably want to cut cost. Even with SP1, you still need ATA133 on your system.

It has nothing to do with ATA133. It has to do with your BIOS and the OS. First you need a BIOS that will see the full drive which has to do with the BIOS having 64-bit LBA capability (IIRC), then the OS must have the right SP also.

All a controller card is is an updated BIOS.

Looks like the 250GB is not 2/15 - 2/21 but should be the week of 2/22 - 2/28 (along with the 40GB)

Next week it looks like the 80GB drive goes on sale...again.

I'm wondering the same thing myself cuz I too want to upgrade my HDVR2 and am new to TIVO moding. Anyone know for sure...would really appreciate the help. TYIA.

Also the 120 limit (I believe) is the number of hours, which is what you get from 137GB....just like the 40GB TIVO has 35 hours. (I'm only talking about the DirecTv TIVO mentioned above.)

:)

Hmmm... I wonder if they will catch up with the rainchecks from the LAST 80GB drive sale before they start trying to sell more of them.

I got a $25 off $100 coupon in the mail today for online or telephone orders. That would make this deal $55 AR. The online price is $149.99. The CSR wouldn't allow both a price adjustment to the ad price of $99.99 and the $25 off coupon!

Anybody know how to make this deal work?

Thanks,

Northland

Nevermind, I got a friendly CSR to give me both the $99.99 price (plus paperclips) less the $25 off $100 coupon! Net for me after tax and rebate is $60.

So this can be done, you just have to be persistent.

Unless the coupon stipulates that it is only good for specific items or if the CF card has a listing of "no coupons allowed" like they've done with the HD, I don't see how they can deny you from using the coupon.

I guess I'll be looking for a 20 off 100 coupon so that I can get in on this deal. I need a CF :p

I agree completely! The only reason they would give for the denial of the coupon was that the price of the CF card had already been reduced to the "special" price and that the coupon would not be allowed. They reasoned that the special price and the coupon made the deal "too good". They of course were correct, $60 AR and with tax is a hot deal, but isn't that the point?

A subsequent phone call with a different CSR yielded no objections whatsoever and the coupon was readily accepted.

The DirecTivo upgrade guide I read said that a larger drive would work, but only the first 120G would be available for use due to design limitations. You can either add the drive (but this requires an additional bracket and some other junk), or just clone your current drive to the new one, replace the old drive with the new one, then save the old drive as a backup. Note that there are specific steps you have to follow to accomplish this. It apparently is not sufficient to just block-copy the old drive to the new one. Do a search for DirecTivo upgrade instructions for the specifics.

These aren't great quality, but they're nice for the garage or a closet--and they run $40 at Wal-mart. I bought several and got free shipping so I don't have to pick these things up. Very nice!

Search for item 20735965 or 20735956.

I saw this in the ad. Looking for a tall, reasonably inexpensive bookcase for the living room. How cheap quality are these, and how cheap do they look? Like do they look worse than a typical wood-veneer computer desk?

It doesn't have to be great quality for me, but dont want it to look like junk either.

Great post

That $79 digitrex is a mixed bag. At 6' or more with the flash the pictures come out great. Anything less than that is a joke. If you don't use the flash it comes out grainy and noisy, if you use the flash it's so bright it floods out everything so badly that it can't be cleaned up using software. I tried the camera's option of changing how much light gets in and didn't do much. Also the flash defaults to off on power up and there is no way to change that.
This thing is going back. Anyone know how that Olympus D-390 is?
