officemax and officedepot are merging

I haven't shopped at either store in many, many years, but OfficeMax was always much more expensive than OfficeDepot, at least in my area.
 
Staples has been kicking Office Depot's ass around here. (the closest OD is now about 25 miles away) They've closed the three stores closest to me in the past 2 years...thanks to the reduced competition, Staples continues to exceed their sales goals every month.

where i live officemax closed and a staples opened in the same location. i think officemax has been in trouble for a while

I honestly don't remember the last time I went into an OfficeMax. Office Depot was close to my house in California, so I did business there, Staples was quite a ways, so I didn't do much with them except for the occasional sale...OfficeMax...not in at least 10 years.
 
I can't believe this took so long. 3 stores that do the exact same thing. In this economy, what could go wrong?

I guess the Easy button is saving Staples, lol.
 
I used to go OfficeMax a lot when they sent out the $10 off a $20 purchase coupons. Now most times it is $10 off a $50 purchase so I don't go there as often.
 
I guess it's time to turn off the lights at Office Max. That way the stores will be as gloomy as Office Depot.

Some jobs will be lost that is for sure however some jobs will be kept and potentially if this merger is a beneficial merger more will be created. However that all depends if this new entity can still compete with Staples, smaller office supply stores and other non-office supply retailers such as Walmart, Walgreen's, Target, Costco, etc who also some of the same products.
