I just got a smoking hot deal on the OfficeJet 8600 Pro multifunction printer at my local Staples in Redmond, WA yesterday. The price on the website is currently $99.99, but they had it marked down in-store to $79.99, plus they had a 20% off in store coupon they were letting me use on it so it was $64 before tax. They had stacks of them right when you came in the store so they REALLY wanted to get rid of them. Not sure what other stores are doing, but the website still shows $99.99, which is still a great deal.

I'm upgrading from an OfficeJet 8500, which has been a work horse for my home office. What I like best about this series is that they are really efficient on ink, with the $37 XL black cartridge able to do 2000+ pages between changes, so being able to find it for under $100 is huge. The printer does scanning and faxing, plus it also has a lot of other goodies like an auto duplexer, Wi-Fi and ethernet for networked printing, and AirPrint capability so you can print to it from an iPad or iPhone.

Also, the cartridges are marked as Starter, but checking the data sheet for the printer, they are supposed to still have the same amount of ink as the standard 950 and 951 carts, which gives you 1000 pages of black and about 700 pages of color. Apparently they are starter carts because they do something special to prime the print heads.

Anyway, this is a smoking hot deal if your store is doing something similar with the extra dollars off. Not sure if mine just got too many and it was a local deal, but it is worth giving them a call to see.

Awesome printer, I have the exact same model. For $99.99 it is a steal. I purchased mine for $129.99 during a 2013 president days sale and this printer msrp is $200 that is the price most places have it for, on "normal sale" week end sale it goes for $150.

The whole point of this printer is that is a color printer with costs comparable to cheaper/comparable to color laser. It is much cheaper than many budget color lasers if you get genuine hp ink vs genuine laser toner, of course knock off ink toner will be cheaper but I do not like dealing with knock off ink when the whole point of me self printing is getting a nice and predictable result that I know I can keep. This printer will not be cheaper than a monochrome laser, but it is still roughly in the same league while providing color capabilities.

Furthermore you get a nice copier and scanner as well, fax, e-mail capabilities, cell phone and tablet printing.

--------------------

I personally use this printer to print color cards and game related material for group events such as card games and rpg, that me and my friend do. Whenever you need a proxy, or a graphic design this printer can do this at such a low cost that I do not worry about the cost of ink and printing supplies. The results is better than what a color laser is able to supply. And the cost of materials is far cheaper than doing some other group friend activity such as drinking or going to the movies. Proxies look very nice with this printer and 110lb card stock I get from office depot for like $15 dollars for 500 sheets.

Furthermore it can do things such as photos which a color laser could not perform.
