Well I have a panasonic Kx-P7105. If you check the archives it was recommended last Summer because it was inexpensive and comes with duplexing. It's okay but impossible to find toner for it. I would love to know how you feel it would fit in your report card for laser printers. I personally would give it a B- because the software drivers are a pain though there is a work around by using HP drivers.

I -RARELY- use any software drivers that come with hardware today cause win XP already has most of the drivers.

According to the rebate form I have it's only good for Fry's, J&R, Microcenter, and Office Depot...so this wouldn't stack with the stuff from CompUSA as far as I can tell...but still...$108 - $70 is better than I got it for.

there is one specific for CompUSA that goes to TCA
Link
there is one that is non-retailer specific that goes to Walled Lake
Link
and there is one that is specific to Office Depot that goes to Walled Lake also (diff promo #)
Link
but all rebate forms require the serial number
there are two original UPCs on the box
that's why the second one is only "possible"

yesterday, CompUSA's website didn't show the words "after rebates" and only showed $99.97
so we went to CompUSA's store to PM the webprice .. out the door for $99.97 + tax minus rebates
Link
the website was fixed last night but people were still successful today at OD and CompUSA with the PM
YMMV

I got it from OD today and pricematched it to CompUSA's $99.97 website mistake yesterday. So $99.97 + tax - $70 rebate = $29.97 + tax. =D There might be a chance for an additional $70 rebate but the rebate goes to the same place but different department. Thus I don't think it'll work. $30 for a laser printer is still a great deal.

Btw, it doesn't come with a usb printer cable, so I had to go out and buy one. It nearly costs as much as the printer (got it from BB for $17, too impatient to order from web and probably could have saved $10, oh well)!

As of last week (things may have changed) USB printer cables were $0.99 at Frys and Outpost.com. If you don't have a Fry's nearby get it from outpost.com (shipping is like $4, but its still way cheaper than $17). By the way these cables are thin (24 guage, so don't pinch them with anything) and 10 ft long. At this price I picked up 3 at Fry's even though I only need 2...one cable is for the 'just in case' situations.

As far as the CompUSA price...I picked up my printer from OD for $80 AR/AC, but I have a print out of CompUSA's price from last night. I'll see if I can get a price adjustment tonight.

I just did a PM to $99 at the Best Buy in Tampa (Dale Mabry). I gave them a print out of the web site from last night when I finished work today. I hadn't even realized, nor did they, that CUSA had changed their site to reflect 'after rebate' pricing. $29 for the printer isn't really that bad of a deal.

Ok...no luck on the PM. Oh well, still a good buy at $70.

They reviewed both the 1710 and the 1750. The 1750 also includes a parallel port. The 1710 is USB-only.

Yep...noticed that right away when I spun my 1710 around and saw the blank plastic cover where the parallel port could have been :D

OOS I had one in my cart, chose local pickup and it REMOVED IT because the store is out, then it showed OOS even for delivery, even though I had it in my cart!

Since OD pissed me off I went to CUSA and got them to price match the extra $20 off from an OD coupon I had (even though coupon was online only).
That's $149+tax out the door, with one guaranteed $70 rebate.

Now there is another "generic" $70 rebate available from Samsung, so if this one goes through too that's a printer for $9, otherwise still an OK price for $79

Now need a cheap USB print server, go to work guys!

I didn't know which of the ML-1710 threads to post this is, but since this was the first one created I decided to bump this back up.

So here is the news on the printer I bought two weeks ago...luckily I caught this before the 14 day exchange period ended:

Well I opened my printer box up on Sunday night to surprisingly find my 'NEW' printer and accessories had already been opened and possibly used. The toner cartrdige had been opened and already placed into the printer.

I went back to OD yesterday to try to get an exchange for a NEW and UNOPENED box and complained. I told them that it is deceiving to sell opened items without any CLEAR marking on the box with a discounted price. I also told them it was against the law. I then spoke to the manager and told him the same thing. After arguing with him I found out that my local OD has essentially no method of marking opened boxes and that they couldn't guarnatee that any ML-1710 boxes actually contained a NEW printer with UNOPENED accessories. Well I told them that was ridiculous and demanded a discounted price; the manager said he was willing to give me a 20% reduction, and I accepted. Best of all when I opened it up, it actually ended up being a new printer (everything in unopened plastic bags). So this is my final price:

$170 - $30 (Staples $30 of $150 competitor coupon) - (20% off reduction) + tax = ~$110 ... $110 - 70 rebate = $40!

Anyway...the main part of this story: if you are buying from OD B&M, make sure you are getting a BRAND NEW printer...in fact, open it up right there in the store and check! If it has been opened before then demand a reduction in price.

Oh...and here is my mini (or not so mini) review of the printer so far:

It is small and worked perfectly fine with my USB2.0 cable (even though the printer is USB1.1). It is very fast. The text quality is amazing (even better when you consider the price). The graphic output, although said to be horrible, was pretty good. I printed a screen size picture of a set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's from BestBuy's website and it looked fine to me (actually it looked better than fine, even comparable to or better than my mom's HP1200SE LaserJet's image quality).

Also the software included is pretty useful. I just installed the print software (not the Print Monitor software). The software has many features and interesting configurations. For one, you can choose how long to wait before the printer enters the 'power save' mode. Also you can configure the toner saver function from within the software (as well as by clicking the button on the printer). I printed two copies of my resume, one in toner saver mode and one in regular mode...I couldn't tell the difference so I'll stick with the toner saver mode and extend my starter toner life by 40%. Other cool features of the software include the ability to put watermarks on the paper (like draft, confidential, etc), set up page templates, and to print multiple pages per sheet (like scaling down 4 pages and putting them on one side of a sheet of paper). This feature is great when printing out CS code.

Anyway, sorry for my long review. I'm just real happy with this printer so far. The only conceivable knock against this printer is that it is a little loud when warming up and printing, but it is silent in power save mode of course. Other than that, I am amazed at its performance and value. I think it is a steal even at the sale price of $99 after rebates.
