OfficeDepot has the Samsung ML-1710 Laser printer for $170. There is a $70 MIR on their site. Look around for Coupon Codes and you should be able to save ~$20 more. I believe it was BB that had it a week or so ago for $100 AMIR.

They are cheaper at Buy.com (and Buy.com puts the IOGear model on "price mistake" periodically, where you can get it for something in the $40 range). I have the IOGear model and it works great with inkjets. I think most of these do not work with GDI printers, though. Not sure if the Samsung is a GDI printer.

Just checked Samsungs specs page and the printer is GDI. That means it may or may not work with the USB print servers... some GDI printers do work, some don't.

Dammit...OOS for me.

If you read the review link above, it shows an LPT port on the back of the printer too.

Went to the San Carlos Office Depot in CA today and picked it up for....

$169.23
- $30 coupon (competitor - $30 off $150 Staples coupon)
+ 11.49 (CA 8.25% Sales Tax)
----------
$150.72 (pre rebate)
- $70 (OD printer rebate)
----------
$80.72 (AR)

Great Deal!

Obviously YMMV with OD accepting competitor Staples coupon (I used a high quality color B&M $30 off $150 print-out). I first talked to a cashier (who wittingly told me that I was using a Staples coupon at OD), but I told him to check with his manager on OD's policy on accepting competitor coupons (and I lucked out!).

Also went to Fry's and picked up 3 USB 2.0 type A to type B 10ft cables @ $0.99 each!

Thanks...small form factor should be nice for my college dorm room this fall! :D

Interesting...back in stock this morning...used a $20 off $100 coupon found on the net which helps offset the $12.31 NY state tax :disgust:

Thanks for the deal...assuming no problems with the rebate, this is pretty hot.

Just grabbed this myself at my local B&M since the website showed a goose-egg for stock. Surprisingly, the "online only" coupon code I'd found was accepted automatically with no hassle when they punched it in at the register.

Another great deal, on a great printer-- now if we can just find some deals on the toner! The included is only good for about 1k pages (@ 5% coverage text prints), and refills are good for 3k according to the info in the manual. Figure best bet is the $78 each at OD, grab 2, and use the coupon again making them $68 each. Anyone come up with anything better?

Printer arrived today...no outer packing box...just the printer box with a Fedex sticker slapped on it. To get the rebate you need a receipt...so if anyone else ordered this, plan on calling OD to get them to fax you a receipt.

I just bought the Brother 1440. If I had seen this deal first, I might have bought the Samsung instead because this price is HOT.

However, the 1440 fits my needs better because:

1.) Its parallel port allows me to attach it to my wireless router and print server.

2.) Until the drum runs out on the 1440 after 20,000 pages, the toner is 50% cheaper than the 1710:

ML-1710
Toner and Drum (3000 pages): $79.88 at Amazon

HL-1440
Brother TN430 Laser Toner (6000 pages): $69.94 at Amazon

3) Memory expandibility via inexpensive SIMMs

Although I don't disagree with your claim that the Brother 1440 is a better printer, at this price when the toner runs out on the Samsung you can just buy a brand new laserjet (who would have thought that lasers would come down in price so much that we could treat 'em like cheap inkjets)!
:)

Also, small form factor is a big plus!

Nice thing about the Samsung 1710 is they claim it works with:
Linux,Apple MacOS 8.6 or later,Microsoft Windows 2000 / XP,Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition / Windows ME

So if it is a GDI printer, at leat they support it with drivers for just about everything out there..........

Reliabilty and Service for printers:
HP: A+
Samsung: A
Brother: B (but a C for home and first year. OUCH)
(Source PC Mag Survey Aug 03 issue)

Tempted to get this for the folks it looks really nice.
