Office XP Dials into internet when opened.

Does any one know how to disable this or what exactly it does?
My client has a small LAN with a dial up modem for internet. Whenever he opens word, or excel XP the modem automatically dials to internet -- meaning the program is trying to get something from the web.
Anyone knows why it accesses the web and how to disable it?

Thanks
Robert

my friend has the same problem but its completely random and started happening after he uninstalled msn messenger

bump!

it might be the built in web intergration features, like the directions feature when word detects an address, or maybe to make it easier when you click the "get more" templates" link or whatever its called. that usually sends you to thier office templte website.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Office Online Support Service. My name is Jeff and I will be helping you with this issue.

Based on my experience, we can try the following steps to resolve this problem:

1. Right click the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop. Click Properties.
2. On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection.
3. Click Apply and OK.
4. Try to run Office XP again. Is the problem resolved?

I suspect this issue is related to the registration of Office XP. Also, Office XP may check the tools by clicking Tools->Tools on the Web. Therefore, please don't worry about this symptom. In fact, Office XP just uses the dialup settings in the Internet Explorer.

It's my pleasure to work with you on this issue. I am looking forward to your reply. If anything is unclear, feel free to let me know. I am happy to be of assistance.

Best Regards,

Jeff Chen
