We just purchased a NEC MultiSync LCD2490WUXi, 1920x1200 for use in a laboratory setting using grayscale images.

Our std computers are Dell towers that do not support the resolution of this monitor.

What would be a good video card for us to purchase?

TIA

How old are these Dell computers? Can you give us a link to it, or can you take a picture of the motherboard and expansion slots? Any video card with enough RAM should work fine. In fact I don't see why the Dell computers wouldn't support that resolution, unless they were 15 years old.

Umm, the recommendation makes absolutely no difference how many colors you're displaying. What software you'll be using makes all the difference, though. Welcome to anandtech, BTW.

Almost all of the common Dell/Intel mainboards use i845/865/915/945/965-based video adapters which do not support 1900x1200. Even 1680x1050 is a rare option added only in later chips. 1440x900 is the highest commonly supported widescreen resolution for the bulk of the P4-based Dell towers.
