Im loling at boomerD. Ive always wondered what these comedy haters actually think is funny. Now i know, ALF!!!! Seriously don't even bother posting in these threads anymore after what you just posted.

I liked Friends, hated Seinfeld and never caught onto the Office despite how much I wanted to. I find Seinfeld himself and Steve Carell annoying. The cast of Friends had a certain dynamic that made their antics funny. I know ATOT is a Seinfeld bunch because it deals with "real world" issues but the guy is simply annoying... and so was that scene-transition jingle every 14.3 seconds.

I don't regret not watching The Office after seeing that...and it's not hard to make me laugh

That's a pretty foolish conclusion to reach. Aside from the obvious fact that one scene may not be indicative of the content of the entire series, your reaction to that one scene will differ substantially if you know the characters.

LOL'd at this.

See, that's exactly the kind of joke I didn't laugh at. Why is that funny? Again, I have a great sense of humor and love "off" comedy. The above joke barely makes sense and just isn't funny.

Not an elitist at all. I just expect comedy to actually be funny.

Unfortunately, because of an apparent lack of writing talent, there hasn't been a FUNNY sitcom in many years...

You just want the good ole laugh track funny shows back? 😛

The Office is a different kind of humor. It's like a boss who is clueless and yet is always up to something that makes you want to giggle behind his back.

what are you talking about? ALF was funny and cool. 😛 Pretty much all of boomers shows i enjoyed greatly as a kid. (they were reruns by the time i watched them 😛) but I also liked freinds, and seinfeld, and currently like the office.

I liked that show a lot when I saw it after the superbowl. didnt know about it much before.

I was cracking up. later in that episode, they get a bag of popcorn, let like 5 pop and dump the rest in a bowl. it was full of seeds. it was so funny lol

All in the Family...Archie Bunker was a pussy, but he was funny.

Home Improvement...Tim Allen was funny for the first season or so...then the writers all died.

The Simpsons...when it was just a short clip in a variety show in the late-80's or early 90's...it was funny as hell. Again, lack of oxygen killed the writing staff's brains...yet they continued to write.

M*A*S*H was one of my all time favorites

Hogan's Heroes, Munsters, Adsams Family, and some of the others from the 60's were funny...at the time...not so much nowadays.

ALF was cute...in a stupid kind of way for the first season.

Barney Miller and Night Court were ok in their day.

Becker was so-so...watchable, but not hilarious.

Beverly Hillbillies and Bewitched in the 60's were good...well...

I could dig through the "sitcom list" on wikipedia for hours and find some that I enjoyed at various times over the years.

My current favorite (now cancelled) was Boston Legal. Stupid and liberal as hell...but still funny.

Holy hell, you fail. You like Alf and Home Improvement, but think the Office isn't funny? Did you also enjoy Bob Saget on America's Funniest Home Videos?

Hah! caught another one!! 😀

Yes, actually, Tim Allen's FIRST season wasn't too bad...but Alf sucked from the very first episode...I had kids who were either pre-teens or early teens, so I ended up having to watch it from time to time anyway.

Bob Saget has always sucked...even when he was in "Full House" with the Olson twins...(who also suck...but in a nice way) 😀

The biggest problem with sitcoms is that they are produced on a weekly production schedule.

That means basically, one week to write them, one week to act them out, and one week to edit all the bloopers...
Not enough time to actually write quality comedy, not enough time for the actors to actually learn comedic lines, (so they get stuck with quickies) nor is it enough time to do a good job in production.
End result? Most sitcoms suck.

Truth. And you didn't like Seinfeld? Seinfeld was (and still is) amazing. 10/10.

Office may be getting a little long in the teeth but is still above average.

The Office is definately an acquired taste. I wouldn't really expect someone who watched it just once to instantly love it.

But it is, in my mind, the best comedy on TV right now.

The same people who enjoy this show must have also laughed at "Friends" and Seinfeld.

WHOA WHOA WHOA that's such a travesty putting Friends in the same league as Seinfeld. One is pure genius while the other is pure shit. Are you kidding me?

one ring to rule them all too?

there's no way that this is how it's done.

Of course not...well, not exactly anyway....the point being, no one involved has enough time to write, learn lines, or produce a quality show...it all happens in too fast of an environment, leaving the end product lacking quality.
BTW, it's not only sitcoms that suffer, TV drama shows also tend to suck...especially after the first year when the writers run out of decent material.

This. Friends sucked a big juicy shit log. I was never even into Seinfeld and can recognize it as a brilliant (as far as TV sitcoms go) show.
