What the fuck is the point of having a door when you have a damn window the size of the door next to it? You should put some blinders up on that window.

Ps. IT don't know shit about copiers.
Yeah I guess it really wouldn't be IT's responsibility either... calling the manufacturer/service person ftw.

Do you have an IT department? Tell them you're busy and to contact IT. Or put a sign on your door: "If you fuck up the copier fix it yourself asshole".

I dont know about where you are, but every place ive been, IT doesnt touch copiers

Close your door, move your computer monitor over so it's in line between you and the copier, or just tell them you aren't a copier repairman/similar.

Tell them to eff off. I had 2 similar experiences. One was as office buttboy, so it was my job to drop everything and 'fix' the copiers/faxes. No choice there.

Number two was as systems support unit buttboy. However, specifically cause it was not my job, and I didn't want to risk breaking anything due to my unfamiliarity with the equipment. One time, I sat right beside (2/3 meters away) from a copier and the clueless non-IT people kept looking in my direction when it jammed or ran out of paper. Only one out of 3 or 4 people directly asked for help once, and I gave it a minute before giving up; couldn't get an add-on off the printer. It gets very awkward when you know that they are looking to you and you try not to notice. Just close the door or nudge the copier over at night.

About IT not dealing with copiers. Aside from going through the motions of the onscreen/LCD troubleshooting of the copier, I haven't seen my old IT people do much. That 5/6 figure service contract has to be good for something.

you're the copier bitch, and there's jack SQUAT you can do about it.

I became the excel bitch at my work while I was an intern. Now, 5 years later, even though I'm much busier and get paid much more, I'm still the excel bitch.

Maybe I'm thinking too rationally, but couldn't you post a big sign explaining how to "take apart" the copier the same way you do it? Then at least you will save yourself from the one or two people who actually read signs and have the added benefit of telling people to read the sign when they come to you instead of having to actually do it.

It's a Ricoh, there is no fixing them. They are constantly broken. It's a "feature". Office workers get them so they have an excuse to not work.
