OpenOffice + Google Documents = FREE

Anyone who thinks OO/GD is a suitable replacement for office does not use office very much.

I have it on my mac, but only cuz it's free and I don't do work on my mac.

It's acceptable considering the difference in price.
If you can afford to buy Office or can get it for cheap/free, then it's better. I'm using Office now, btw, my previous post was more than a year ago.

As someone that needs to write documents of various types for work daily, I can tell you that both of those products are pretty poor.

Google Docs is something kids could use for writing reports and such, but not much else. OpenOffice is awful- it has so many bugs and quirks that you'd throw your computer out the window if you had to use it on a daily basis.

How many people really use all of the office features? I doubt your average home user takes advantage of 5% of the Office features which is why it's always hard to justify upgrades. Even OpenOffice is overkill for what most people us.

Agreed. They have their uses but neither is suitable for daily productivity. Anyone who thinks otherwise simply hasn't been subjected to that kind of torture.

Just this week the company I work for announced the HUP.

Office 2007 for $10 FTW.

Maybe it means we are switching to 2007 finally. They were saying no to it last year due to costs and training, but it's simple to learn for the standard features.

Office 2007 is much much better than 2003. And OpenOffice? LOL I can't stand that pile of crap.
