I just bought a linksys cable modem at office depot.....I returned to my office after i bought it and my boss sees teh modem and goes "return that piece crap...you'll regret buying that..."

Well...if my boss is right, and i open this and find out he is not full of crap, how will office depot issue me a refund? Will it store credit if it is opened?

I went to the website and saw this:

Desktop computers, monitors, printers, scanners, faxes, handheld computers, and all-in-one machines must be returned in their original packaging and with all accessories within 14 days of purchase to qualify for a full refund, exchange or credit. Please note that Notebook PCs, LCD projectors, PDAs, Digital Cameras and opened software with their original packaging and accessories cannot be returned, but, instead may only be exchanged for the same item within 14 days of purchase.

OD will return your money to you - provided you return the cable modem - and all of its packaging to the store within 14 days. Not sure what you find so confusing about their policy in relation to your purchase.

ooops...i didn't cut and paste the whole thing....

It basically said that they will issue you a refund, exchange, or store credit...but they do not tell what the criteria is for each....

I just do not get what teh hell my boss is talking about...i thought all cable modems were created equal....I mean, there is standard they have to go by, right?

Just lie to them if things get bad. Tell them that you thought you needed a cable modem, but it turns out that you are getting DSL instead. Act stupid....OD employees get that a lot.

Some people will tell you that Linksys is crap, like your boss. Pick a major brand name and someone's going to have something good or bad to say about it, basically.

I personally have never had a problem with their stuff and I've used their NICs for years as well as a router that I bought 4 years ago that's still going strong. Your mileage may vary.

Also remember OfficeDepot.com and OD B&M return policies sometimes vary.

It might be printed in super tiny print on your sales receipt, assuming you bought it at OD B&M.

Yeah, If i don't like it (I don't get how I wont...if it won't do its job, then it shouldn't even be on the market), I'll just bring my g/f with me have her act like my wife and go all bitchy on me for getting a cable modem instead of a DSL modem. I'll just have her say something like "I dam told you to let the DSL guy install it himself....you can't do anything right!"....:)

Let's see what you'll accomplish here:

1. You'll look like a moron who doesn't know the difference between a DSL modem and a cable modem

2. You'll look like you're completely whipped/hen-pecked/ball-less

3. You still might get shafted by Office Depot if the fine print on their return policy allows them to do so

Good plan, Skipper. :p

i would call the store and ask if they charge a restocking fee for returned items. if they so no, just go ahead and return it. if they say yeah, then u might need to be a little creative.
