Starting tommorrow OD will start charging restocking fee on certain electronics (ie projectors, cameras and laptops...)

Also refunds & returns will be tracked (ala returns.com).

Rebates will be tied into the returns process/system.

So PMs and Returns = NO REBATES

Seems like more and more stores are starting to change a restocking fee. I guess too many people abuses their liberal return policy.

It only makes sense since so many people abuse more liberal policies. Many shameless losers probably "borrowed" a laptop and projector for a presentation, only to return it a couple of weeks later before their credit card bill even arrived. It would have cost several hundred dollars to rent the laptop and projector from one of the rent/leasing companies.

A restocking fee is necessary to keep those of us who are honest from paying higher prices and thus subsidising these shameless losers who abuse more liberal return policies. Do your research before you show up at the store to buy something, there's no reason to return something just because you changed your fickle mind. The only reason to return something these days is if it's defective, and exchanges aren't affected by a restocking fee.

VERY well said!

Honestly, returns only happen in the United States, in Asia, there are very little to no such thing call return, they do exchange if the item is defective, otherwise, all sales final.

I somewhat agree with you. I am sure people do it, but I don't think its to an extent we give it credit for. Just like theft, its going to happen, but not everything gets locked up. I personally never have done that, and I do not know anyone that has.

As far as changing your mind, why not? You get it home, and NIB, and it doesn't match, or doesn't look as cool as you thought it would. Or your SO says, "wow that's stupid." People change their minds, if it has not been used what is the harm? And why is the restocking fee based on a %? Does it cost more to restock (NIB) something that is more expensive? Take more time? Require more store people?

I see restocking fees somewhat on the same level as rebates. My opinion does not apply to opened and used items. Hell, you can return shoes as long as the soles are pristine.
