Office Depot Ignorance

I know it might sound stupid, but I had an issue with office depot today and I am veyr disappointed. I called in regarding a deal I saw on the HD forum for an LCD Monitor for around $160 (great deal, I know). So I called in and talked with this one lady from their monitor dept. and she said she saw one in stock on the computer and asked if I wanted it held. I said "yes, of course...as long as you have it in stock". She replies "let me go ask my manager...its the display model but I think it should be ok". I wait on hold for a few min and she gets back saying "yes we have it...whats your name, # ect"....I give that to her and say ill be by in a few hours. I get a call back an hour later saying 'Our computer was messed up and we dont have that one I told you we did...im sorry...." WTF. I demand to talk to the mananger who tells me that "the monitor was never there...they never carried them..." I demanded to know what could be done only to be told "theres nothing I can do....have a nice day"..WTF. They were completely ignorant to the fact that they had one ON HOLD for me and then called to say it was gone.....

I dont think there is anything I can do about it...possibly write a letter to OD HQ expressing my disconcern, but who knows what that will do...

get used to it. These people make sh!tty wages and when they have a chance tio steal a hot deal away from a customer they will. That monitor is in the passengers seat of the managers El Camino as we speak.

I worked at Office Depot briefly, and its entirely possible that there was a computer error. OD is usually good about making the customer happy. They really stressed that during my interview.

Well, as much as I hate to say it, your first problem was calling the store.... I have found that when you call on a deal THAT good, a lot of times the employee you talk to might not know about it. When they look it up in the computer they see the deal and take the crap from themselves... Shady? Yep. Bad customer service? Absolutely. Does it happen all the time? Sure thing.

Will you get any compensation from OD? I doubt it, and I hate it for you, because that was a smoking deal and I would be seriously pissed if I got shafted like that.

Looks like an employee decided to buy it before you did once they saw the price.

Honestly, I'd just be glad she called me instead of having driven all the way down there to find out I was just wasting my time.

I worked for Office Depot during summers during highschool. The computer inventory system was really old, and doesnt update in real time. Most of the times the employee you have caught on the phone has other customers/tasks to take care of and phone duty is low priority. Therefore, physical checks to see if an item is actually in stock are rarely done. Plus most of the time the person holding an item never shows up.

Simply by the managers un-certain tone it really didnt seem that was the case...her story was shaky at best and I could tell something was up

So they actually called you back before you got to the store and told you that it wasn't in stock?

WHAT, exactly, are you complaining about?

You deserve not getting in on this deal because you broke the first rule of any hot deal: DON'T CALL THE STORE! If it's a price mistake and you call then they'll fix it. If it's just a hot deal, not a price mistake, and you call then all of the employees at the store will set aside the remaining stock for themselves to buy. By calling the store you ruin the deal for not only yourself but for others trying to get in on it too.

Probably not much considering there's no such word as "disconcern"... :)
Perhaps it's a cross between "concer" and "discontent"?

It's either 1) a mistake or 2) someone bought it. Either way be happy they called you and you didn't waste a trip.

They probably listed the monitor in stock, and then didn't actually have it. Happens all the time. They have a locker they keep their $$$ stock in. It was a mistake, move on. Usually things listed in the HD forums for Office Max/Depot are YMMV anyway.
