I needed a new color laser printer and as luck would have it, Office Depot has a promotion on the Samsung C1810W ($299) and a free Galaxy Tab 4 ($199).

I needed the printer anyway so a free tablet just made it a no-brainer.

I have no real use for the Tab 4, but I'm going to sell it and will have only paid whatever I get for it less for the printer. The printer is pretty sweet by the way.

Just thought I'd pass it along if anyone's in the market for both a printer and 7" tablet. The weekly ad says the offer is valid until 12/13.

Yeah, I figured it's only really a deal if someone happens to need one or both anyway. I can probably sell the tablet for around $150 and then the printer is only $150.

Umm, the Amazon one requires you to pay extra for toner.

Does the Office Depot printer include toner?

Yes, toner included. But then Amazon one includes the toner as well. (Listed under 'what's in the box'). EDIT: Oh wait, maybe not. Just saw that there's 3 separate versions w/ varying toners included, black or black + color.

Yeah another $236 for the genuine Samsung carts alone. $178 for third party.

Sold the tablet for $150 to a friend- brand new in the box.

NFC printing on this printer is a trip!

It's a sad commentary on Samsung's tablet sales if Office Depot is giving away a current generation Galaxy Tab (albeit the entry level model) with a printer that only costs twice as much. It's certainly a fine device if you get it that way, but it's pretty clear that Office Depot or Samsung wants to clear out unsold stock.

I think Samsung is affected (like every other Android tablet OEM) by the onslaught of cheap no-name tablets that flood the market. $180-$200 for a 7" tablet seems like an incredibly hard sell vs. at least half that from no-name makes, for the average non-techy consumer. (Of course I'd never pay that price for one either.)

Pretty much -- it's part of why Samsung's mobile division is hurting. If you want cheap, it's easy to go considerably cheaper than that while getting a decent experience (ASUS' MeMo Pad 7 is $149, and that's "expensive"). And if you're comfortable with spending a significant amount of money, you're probably willing to spend a bit more for something better than a Galaxy Tab 4 7.0. I suspect the $249 iPad mini is less about competing with the "real" budget Android market and more about squeezing out big names like Samsung, which have trouble competing at the low end.
