Has anyone used this yet? Thinking about grabbing a copy to put full word and stuff on another computer but wondering how different it is/looks compare to 2012?

Yes, i've been using it for a little while since it came out. I think it's quite good. Outlook seems faster than 2013, and one nice thing is that when you attach a file it shows the last most recently accessed files, so you don't have to browse for them each time.

Recently opened files in Word and Excel, etc. are grouped by date (such as yesterday, last week, etc.) so it is easier to find which file you wanted to open. There's more integration with cloud stuff as well if you would use that.

Another plus is that it has a Lot fewer patches when you install it, so in that way it is faster to set up.

Overall though it doesn't look drastically different than 2013. I would recommend upgrading.

How well does Word and Excel work without having a 365 account or cloud storage? Can they work locally only?

And how does Outlook work with POP3 and IMAP accounts vs Outlook.com?

I was using excel 2016 this evening working my class project and when I tried using the bing map feature in chart tools it caused my excel to crash. Whatever that plug in did ruined my ability to use office 365 and started returning an error that it isn't compatible with my operating system. Then after running the repair install it would launch word then crash, launch excel and once I hit the file tab it locked up. Only outlook worked right and I ended up uninstalling it and using my university copy of office 2013 pro plus which installed and works just fine. I don't like how excel 2016 removed a tab from the chart tools and forces you over to an icon on the far left to access features that are in the three tabs on prior versions.

As someone who sends a lot of emails with attachments each day, I think this is worth the price of admission alone. So much so that I had to temporarily go back to 2013 for a couple of weeks and sorely missed this.

Finally got around to downloading a copy and setting it up. I'd say i'm generally positive about '16. Was quite happy with 10, 13 made enough changes to the UI that were not positive that I didn't really care for it but with 16 they've seemed to address enough of them to make it worthwhile to go from 10 to 16.

We upgraded our users to 2013 when we migrated to O365 nearly a year ago and have by and large been happy with it. I just installed 2016 at home about a month ago, from what I've used of it it's more of the same and I have no complaints.

Quick question you might be able to help me with. I have Office 2013 home and student and I have been thinking of uninstalling it from my PC and giving it to my dad to use at his house on his computer. I was then going to buy 2016 for myself on my PC. Is it possible for my dad to use my old copy of 2013? I am not sure how it works with the activation process, product key, etc.... Thanks.

Depends on what kind of Home and Student license you have. Was it one of those little paper cards that comes with a new PC, did you download it from a university partnership program, or did you buy a retail boxed copy at a store?

If it's a retail copy key shouldn't be an issue. At worse it may make you phone in the activation.

I got 2016 for Mac through Microsoft HUP this year.

I really wish one key worked for both, but then again, for this generation, one key only works for one install. I remember getting Office 2013 and it worked for two devices, though of course still one platform (as 2013 was only available on Windows). Now that there is kind of a parity between the two versions, it sure would be nice, but obviously I don't expect it as hardly anyone who offers multi-platform software (and allows multi-device licensing) allows you to use it on both Mac and Windows.

I am very happy that You Need A Budget actually is truly multi-platform and, for all intents and purposes, unlimited device licensing.

I think HUP is only a one-time purchase per Office version. I'll have to try at the turn of the year, because I wanted Office that was up to date on my Macbook, but I also really really want 2016 on my Windows desktop. Thankfully 2013 is still very nice.
