Just launched this morning. In terms of Office itself, the big news seems to be the harder push for Office 365 on consumers, basically a subscription based licensing model. They've been using it in big business for a year or so. A full retail, pay once license will still be available.

As for the software I've only tried OneNote and Word so far. OneNote seems to be working great, especially the sync features between the desktop, browser and mobile clients. I've noticed that syncing is a lot quicker and invisible than before.

Also Engadget pointed this out, and I noticed it too, the default storage location is SkyDrive and not your document or a c drive location. I expect that would change if you didn't log into Office.

I downloaded office 2013 preview from my technet subscription earlier today. I've only used outlook so far. I'm liking it so far. I need to do some then about the all white background and tool bar. But i'm liking it so far.

Thanks, I am going to check this out.. hopefully they have some good new features that are worthwhile even if you don't plan to use office 365/cloud stuff very much.

The menu's being in all caps is a joke and i'm not a fan of the smooth scrolling. Other than that it's not bad. It's actually pretty good. But we've invested way to much into 2010 to upgrade.

Is the menus being all caps an OCD thing? I don't mind it. The scrolling seems smoother, but also slower. Not sure what to think with that one.

I notice Outlook feels much less bloated. Not that I really care as I don't use it much, but I know that has been a complaint for a long time now.

The typing animation is atrocious in word. The curser lags being what you are typing and is incredibly annoying. Especially if your a fast typer. It doesn't seem to happen in any other app than Word.

No, you don't need it as far as I know. But if you're using any online features they won't work obviously and Office 365 does require a connection.

I just installed it and it seems good but we'll see what has really improved. I haven't tried outlook yet.
I also think the capital letters thing is pretty lame, i'll have to send them some feedback so at least we can have an option to change that.

If you lose your internet connection is this version useless?

No, you still have your files stored locally as an option or its cached locally if you save the files to the cloud so they are still accessible when there is no connection

Wow I wonder when they will change it back so you can adjust the colors all this white space is annoying.

How do I set Outlook to default to open a message when I hit reply instead of having to hit the Pop Out button?
