Office 2010 product key question

I have Office 2010 on my moms laptop but cant for the life of me find the disc/product key. I googled a free product key retriever and it gave me the license key. I was wondering if, since her HDD is dying, I can just download Office 2010 professional and then use the key I grabbed with that program.

I have a feeling it'll be more complicated than that but any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You should run Belarc Advisor
Easily found by google search. I tshould give both the Product Code as well as the License Key. Sometimes, you must enter the proper product code when you do the install or your license code will not take.

Interesting...is that the product ID? Those are what showed when I ran the first program, I'll have to give yours a try. Also, where would I enter that upon install.

Belarc will give both the Product ID and also the License Key .. if a program, like MS Office, wants the Product ID, it will ask for it when the installer is run. The product id determines which version of a program you are installing, such as Office Pro, Ultimate, Student, etc .. it also applies when doing an install of the OS .. some of them have all versions on the cd/dvd and the product id specifies which version you want. Generally a specific license key, can only be used with a specific type of product code.
