Office 2007 = not nice

I got gung ho recently and installed Vista Ultimate + Office 2007 on my tablet PC. Office 2007 cannot seem to open the simplest of documents. I have some simple XLS and DOC office documents from Office 2003 that Office 2007 locks up on. Overall I am not impressed. I think it is more Office than Windows.

Does anybody else have these problems with Office 2007 ?

Mine is a similar combo (Vista Ultimate x64 + Office 2007 Professional) and works fine. Maybe your issues are actually being caused by NTFS file-system permissions? See this thread and remember that Vista doesn't run your stuff at Administrator level, unlike old versions of Windows.

Thanks.

I went there and checked and I don't think it is a permission thing. I am a member of the Admin group, and I double checked and I have full control on my Desktop folder which is where I have been trying to open from.

If you have any samples you'd be comfortable sharing, you could email some to me and I'll see if it does it on my system too. tmcfadden omnicast net 🙂

My friend has problem with Office 2007 on his Windows XP caused Outlook Express to use French language dictionary instead of English to check for misspell words before sending out email.

Actually mechBgon I do. I found a generic one that locks up 2007 but opens OK in 2003 and OOffice.
Thanks for sending it over. I saved it to my desktop screen and opened it in Excel 2007 and it seems to be functional. I edited it and sent it back; does it open for you or still crash? 🙁

Maybe re-install Office 2K7?

I have Vista Ultimate & Office 2K7 Pro and no problems at all, in fact I really like Office 2K7...

Hm. I could see a corrupted document failing to open but this would indicate a problem with your Office install.

Definately try an Office reinstall (it's quite fast via DVD) but also check your system and app logs to see if any errors are being thrown.

I've found Office 2007 to be quite stable and I like it a lot. Outlook 2007 has some speed issues and a few stability issues but is better than Outlook 2003, at least.

I have up on this and some applications that would not work with Vista. Punting back to XP Tablet Edition and office 2003.

I'll try again in 6 months.
