I was just wondering if Office 2007 can be installed on both my desktop and laptop, or if it's only allowed on one computer. Thanks for the help!

I have a retail copy. Here are the terms from my license agreement:

2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the ?licensed device.? A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.
c. Separation of Components. The components of the software are licensed as a single unit. You may not separate the components and install them on different devices.

Whoa! When did MS go back to this EULA? I thought they stopped letting you install a copy on your laptop with Office 2000! Way cool. :)

Yeah, that is cool. I still need to purchase two copies, though; 2 PCs and one lappy.

now if I could only figure out how to stop ctfmon.exe from always running as a service, I'd be totally happy!

The MS instructions on how to prevent ctfmon.exe from running, as given in its "Frequently asked questions about Ctfmon.exe" , seem to NOT APPLY to Office 2007.

The instructiomn to
QUOTE
6. Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Shared Features to expand it.
7. Click the icon next to Alternative User Input, and then select Not Available.
8. Click Update.
ENDQUOTE
doesn't apply since Alternative User Input does not appear anywhere as an available option under Office 2007.

The Home and Student Version allows to be installed on 3 systems from the box:
"Licensed for 3 PCs: not for use in any commercial, nonprofit, or revenue-generating business activities, or by any government organizations."

Again this is a non-commercial seat so if you make money off of using office somehow then this version isn't for you. But if you are using it for home or a student it is only 150 dollars for word, powerpoint, excel and onenote.

Right now i have one copy running on my Vista Home box and another on my WinXP Laptop.. Waiting for my girlfriend to finish her office 2003 class so i can update her machine with the new version.

Try this:

1) log on as your regular account

2) go to Control Panel > Date, Time, Language & Regional Options

3) click the Languages tab, then the Details button. A new panel appears.

4) On the new panel, switch to the Advanced tab and checkmark the Turn off advanced text services checkbox.

5) repeat this procedure for any other user accounts you might have set up in WinXP

6) ???

7) Profit!! :D

Any good?

Hey, mechBgon, that works! THANK YOU!
That solution is the most arcane thing ever.
I never would've found that path to a fix.
Wow, I am truly impressed (not easy to do).

Thank you!

So does this mean I can install this on 2 laptops? One being the licensed device and the other being the portable device?

Also, I'm assuming somewhere else in the EULA it says you can't use both at the same time. Does this mean I can't use Word at the same time on both machines or does it mean I can't use Word on one and Excel on the other?

Thx!
