Hey guys so I clean installed 7 Pro x64 over a Vista install for a client that was pretty infested and got their Office 2003 key to use with 7. It was Student and Teacher edition which is the Standard version and "turns into" the S&T upon key entry. So I downloaded the official installer (OfficeSTD.exe) and upon execution even with compatibility mode a nondescript fatal error is encountered. After much googlefu someone mentioned the setup.ini so I change enforcecache to 0 which got me to the installer screen but after entering the key it claims the installation is corrupt. I have downloaded and redownloaded the installer. Should I waste any more time on it or inform the client that I can install Libre or 2007/2010/2013/365?

Thanks, I saw that after posting but did not see anything that applies. Everywhere on the internet says it should work but after getting off of work without progress, I came home and made a virtual machine replicating the environment and still come across this:

I do know of some systems running 2003 Professional on 7 x64, but is there something wrong with Standard?

And, for whatever it's worth, MS will end support for Office 03 in April as they will for XP.

Where'd you download the Official Installer from? Sounds like that installer is corrupt, the download source is probably hosting a corrupted version of it. I'd find it somewhere else. This is why I keep a CD case with the last 4-5 versions of every flavor of windows/office kicking around our IT desk :p

This right here:
****************.microsoft.com/download/6/2/3/6233A257-16BD-4C8D-BF4C-6FA59AF9213A/OfficeSTD.exe

edit- didn't realize the d/l link would be redacted but it is the freely available MS link.

And I have redownloaded it, extracted, messed with setup.ini, tried a mounted ISO in case it wanted to be installed from media, etc..

Oh yeah don't get me started on having hard copies, Office 365 is pretty slick but now that the deployment tool is giving me sh*t, try installing it on a clients PC in the boondies with slug-paced satellite internet. Hard copies all the way...

Now that I think about it, will Student & Teacher edition install on Pro-level OS versions? I am encountering the same inability to install onto XP Pro SP3. I'm thinking of trying XP Home or 7 vanilla. The original OEM OS with this particular PC was Vista Home Premium.

Again, MS licensing for all its products is hugely complex. Most often, OEM is tied to only one computer, and retail versions may be loaded into more than one, depending on the specifics.

I know......very confusing. It's all about maximizing profits.

But remember, while i think many will do it, to continue to run a MS product which inherently needs ongoing patching, beyond the point of they stop writing patches....really does bear risks.

So soon, that will include both XP all versions, and Office 2003.

Thanks, it's probably to do with it. I don't have a standard key to try it with, perhaps it is an OEM key. Some people like to roll old school LOL. Way too many folks still on XP.
