It's not on the CD itself. It would be cost prohibitive if Microsoft embedded a unique CD-Key in each CD.

The only way to get the CD-key is:

1. the normal way, from a sticker or CD case.

2. if you previously installed that copy, you could pull the key from the isntalled copy.

There's actually one other way, go to a website and get a pirated CDkey
:D

If you have it installed one another machine then you can use a cd key finder...At Techtv.com search for "keyfinder"...I think it was on the program "Call for Help".

I looked this up, and in the FAQ he states that this doesn't work with Office 2000 (Ofice 97 & XP works though - damn!). I tried it and sure enough, it only gives the key of the OS (W2K in my case). Did a search on TechTV.com, came up blank. Any other help out there? It's gotta be in the registry, anybody have any clue where?

Call MS, they will make a new key for you with the part number off the cd, granted it will cost you 10 bucks, but atleast it will be done...

Thanks, but that's easier said than done - ever tried navigating the MS website just looking for a phone number to call anybody there? Only thing I found was for businesses, and the cost for one incident was $245. Obviously that's not what you're talking about - got a number?

No kidding? Honestly, I don't think I would have expected it to. I saw (800)RU-LEGIT on another thread, and couldn't believe that wasn't a joke.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info - $10 seems fair enough as much as it cost in the first place!! I was a Beta Tester for XP Office and just had too many cd-keys floating around....

Thanks again

Is the Office 2000 copy you have a corporate edition? If so, you may not need cd keys at all.. just an idea.

If you have access to the registry, you should be able to find the cdkey of the office software on the machine I believe.
